As the title makes clear, these aren't necessarily the best wines of 2021, but rather the wines they think were the best values. Quite a few wines from California's Central Coast made the list, which I'm always happy to see because I love that region.

quote:

Each year, we create the Top 100 Best Buys list to help guide our readers to some of the highest-quality value wines on the market today. This year, we culled from more than 1,200 wines that earned our coveted Best Buy designation for bottles that fall within a specific price-to-score ratio and cost $15 or less.

At the top of this year’s list is a widely available Washington Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers the structure, intensity and finesse that one looks for in the variety. Other domestic gems include Oregon Pinot Noir, Finger Lakes Chardonnay and even a unique blend of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from California’s Central Coast.

Honestly, I like some of the ones that rank lower on this list. That top ten is oof.

The one that surprised me in the top 10 was the Bogle 2019 Pinot Noir. I love Bogle's Phantom, Petite Sirah and Essential Red, but I don't think of Bogle when I think Pinot Noir. I thought all of their vineyards were around Lodi and Clarksburg, so I checked and was surprised to find out that some of the grapes for the Pinot came from the Russian River Valley and from Monterey. I'm going to buy a bottle and see what I think

Funny. I started snagging Chateau Ste. Michell Cab and Merlot as a table wine because it's pretty damn good for that price point. I guess the snobs agree with my pallet.

In the value price range I actually prefer Washington cabs to California cabs. Chateau Ste. Michelle is good, and so is Columbia Crest

If I'm looking for value Washington State is on the top of my list for new world bottles.

There's actually a ton on that list that I drink often. Lots of Lodi like you said. Oak Ridge makes good Petite Sirah and that Zin is really good. Cameleon is a Chile winery and they have a good Camenere I drink often. I've stopped breaking the bank for wine in recent months.

It's amazing how good wine can taste when it's from a place that you have a connection with.

Funny I did a double take at the store when I saw it the first time. I ran away from it with the same mindset. I did just find a Total Wine Pinot for under $15 from Willamette - Samuel Robert Winery Pinot Noir Vintner's Reserve Willamette.

Theres some Carneros (SP?) Pinots that are in the same price range that I've drank before too.

Just give me some Josh, Coonawarra and some Le' Creme and I'm good.

Same here. We're still on Saxum's mailing list, and still buy around half a dozen bottles a year from them for around $100 a bottle, and I'll place an order from Tensley once or twice a year for some wines in the $45 range, but for the most part we're drinking under $15 bottles of wine each night. We save the expensive wines for special occasions

I went to the Columbia Gorge AVA a few years ago and the stuff coming out of there is just as good, if not better than what's coming out of California, and it's like half the price. Fewer people too. It's a great area.

My family is really into Walla Walla wine country. I’m sure it’s been discovered by the wine snobs but same kind of feel. It’s just south of the Gorge on the border of Oregon. Yakima has some of my favorite wineries. I believe Crossfork Creek, Delile and Sheridan are around there. Pendleton is also right there which is home of the Canadian whiskey (sinful versus bourbon I know).

Did y’all have to put in email to see the list?

I’ve been buying that silk and spice all year. Tastes great to me but I’m no wine enthusiast.

Nice, I had a trip planned to Yakima when Covid hit and never made it out there. I'd love to see more WA wines in my local wine stores, but they just don't have the marketing appeal that CA wines have. It's kind of a shame, really.

Same here. I don’t think I’ve even had the Pinot noir. They have yet to disappoint me otherwise though. I’ll have to try it.

How much in advertising dollars did Barefoot pay Wine Enthusiast to get on the list?
