Getting a PS5 for my 4 & 6 year old boys, I’m way out of the loop on games. Want to get em some value sports games(bball, baseball, football, golf, racing), they will be fine with last year’s vs the new one. Any recs?

There’s basically one legit option for each sport, except racing (unless you consider stock car, open wheel, and sport racing to be different sports). Not a lot to recommend in this genre.
Baseball - MLB The Show
Football - Madden
Basketball- NBA 2K
Golf - PGA Tour
Racing - F1, NASCAR, or Gran Turismo

Super Mega Baseball 4. Highly entertaining and I would think kid friendly. Probably my favorite sports series these days. You can get it for 20 bucks

wish there was a legitimate simulation option for NASCAR, the company who has their licensing is a dumpster fire

It’s really sad how far sports games have regressed since the late 90s to mid late 2000s. Used to be so many different options in each sport. Now it’s dwindled down to one option each in Football, Basketball and Baseball which is really depressing. All because these gaming companies couldn’t handle a little competition.

I liked the play better on SMB3. The former major leaguers in SMB4 is cool, but i don`t feel it runs as smooth.

I'm a grown adult and trying to do even the simplest things in this game are like fricking rocket science.
Wanna drive to the basket and do a simple layup? Here's the 47 button combination you have to do.
Even just basic shooting in this game is a pain now.
I can't imagine a 4 year old having fun with this game.

You can swap shot control from stick to buttons if that is what you are referring to

Its way more than just this. I agree with the previous poster (ETA: dcrews). I stopped at 2K22 because of this.

Even with the buttons, it still has that shot meter (if I'm not mistaken), but I'm moreso talking about simple layups or dunks. Hell even a crossover.
You have to rotate the stick perfectly with a multiple button combo just to do simple moves/shots.
I can understand the complexity of having it this way if you want to choose specific dunks or even having it setup this way for a competitive mode. But it should be able to be turned on / off. I don't want to have to learn 40 different stick/button combos just to play a normal game against the AI.

Glad I'm not the only one. They just keep shoving more and more crap into these games instead of tweaking the core gameplay. I remember in the old days 2K was the game to play when you wanted the best basketball simulation. I guess since NBA Live went away, there's no competition to drive them to get better.

You can change from user timing to player shot% if you hate the meter. I prefer timing meter on shots and layups.
There is a fair bit of adjusting you can do to find your preference. I would look at the pro stick and shot input, orientation sliders.

I never got comfortable with dribble combos and relied on hesitation move and quick players lol

I saw that 24 was a free download on PS+ so I decided to give it a shot. Haven’t played 2K since probably 15 or 16.
Fired up an exhibition and by the time I was down 15-0 I decided to turn it off and find something better to do

Couldn’t make a short jumper or layup to save my life, much less actually dunk the ball.
And I was playing with the 94 Magic. Watching Shaq trying to lay it up at point blank range because I was fricking up the dunk input became too much for me

I bought the 2023 version when it was super cheap (after 2024 came out).
I'm not so interested in playing it that I'm going to go back
The last EA basketball game I played before 2K was the EA college hoops game. I miss the overly simple controls

I totally understand. I havent purchased since 2k20 because of the absurdly large download sizes. I tried 2k24 on gamepass cloud play and made it half of one season

Wasting your time. People like that already have their mind made up. If it isn’t tailor made to their skill set immediately, they’re gonna throw the whole thing out and be done with it. Crazy. They’re missing a good game
