It never really worked before, why would it work now?
Golf has exploded the last 10 years. Also St. Francisville has seen a ton of nice redevelopment turning it into an attractive day visit... If done properly, it could absolutely be a destination course that draws people from a few hours drive to stay for a weekend. Middle of nowhere MS can do it, Fairhope, AL can do it. No reason this can't be the same

What courses are you referring to for middle of nowhere MS?
And come on, Fairhope is not in BFE.
St Francisville kinda is….and the Bluffs ain’t close to St Francisville.

You can make it from the Bluffs clubhouse to downtown SFV in eight minutes? I would say closer to 15.

So you want it to be a casino course, which isn’t happening in the Feliciana hills….or a course owned with very deep pockets from a local industry.
The casino course loses its arse off, but is balanced by the casino. And the deep pockets is just losing its arse off with the deep pockets covering the loss each year.
Those are what the Bluffs can become?

I have been playing golf for 35 years and had a fox steal my ball off 10th green (thinking it was an egg)
I have played 63 of the current top 100 and think 11,12,13 might be the best 3 holes on the planet, the area was called sweet wood hollow! Perhaps the most beautiful spit in Louisiana! God I miss it!

i make that trip every Sunday morning and it takes me less than 12 minutes, fwiw--so i'd say split the difference--not from the clubhouse but from the most southern part of the neighborhood where i live

He changed his argument to "casino" courses after he got called out.

Hell, The Bluffs isn't in any worse of a location than Carter Plantation is.

The only difference is the interstate allows good traffic from the bigger cities all around.

Carter has a pretty big area it can draw from. BR is 45 minutes away and Hammond is only 20 minutes away. Hammond's golf course is pretty blah so a good many people take the short ride to Carter and play a much better course at a very similar price to Oak Knoll.
For the Bluffs BR is the only area with big numbers near it and it's still a 40ish minute drive. Plenty of golf can be played in BR for a decent price so a 40 minute drive to play is going to be a once in a while deal for most BR golfers.

That's fair, but then again, most of the golf in BR is on the outskirts of town already. Pelican Point, Greystone, The Island, Copper Mill and Beaver Creek are all a decent drive already, and none of them feature the elevation changes at The Bluffs. Beaver Creek is a decent drive for me, but if The Bluffs was open and in the same condition, I'd drive the extra 15 minutes.

“…but if The Bluffs was open and in the same condition, I'd drive the extra 15 minutes.“
….and there’s the whole issue with the place. It’s a monster of a layout with a lot of issues for maintenance and not a steady stream of revenue to keep afloat.
You’d drive an extra 15 minutes, but how often? And how many more like you will?

I think making it affordable is the wrong route.
It's an hour from most places in Baton Rouge. That means an hour there, an hour back, hour to pay/warmup/ grab drinks before teeing off, and four hours for golf. That's 7 hours without going to the 19th hole. That's basically an entire day.
I would love to splurge on a $150 - $200 round at The Bluffs when it's in pristine condition a few times a year. If they were affordable and had decent conditions, I still wouldn't play it that much because of the time commitment involved. Maybe it's bc I have young kids, that just doesn't work for me. Maybe I'm in the minority.

Try to find a tee time anywhere in town tomorrow. They are basically non-existent.
Beaver Creek, Copper Mill, Santa Maria, The Island, Pelican Point, and Carter Plantation all have nothing before noon available. I didn't try Greystone. Hell, you can't even get Webb.
If The Bluffs can't succeed in this environment then they are doing something wrong. I understand it will take a lot of money to get it back up and running, but make it a destination and supplement with local play/memberships.

Any SFV people have inside information on the Bluffs situation? I’d assume the deal is basically dead at this point. Was Callicott just spread too thin or what? He had a whole website with lists of specific plans to fix the course, then nothing

I would love to see the Bluffs back like it used to be. Last I heard Harold had something in the works, but that was a month or so ago...
