How much will I spend on a complete fitted set of clubs?

Wife got me 3 lessons and a club fitting at golftec for my birthday. I am a 10 handicap and have been playing with the same clubs for 15 years so it is time for an upgrade.
Can I get a decent full set of clubs for under $1,500? I definitely need a new putter, driver and irons - could probably hold off a bit on 3 wood and wedges if it would break my budget.
I know golftec is going to try to sell me custom clubs - do I just get the fitting and then buy them on 2nd swing?
Any tips would be great - appreciate it!

For new stuff you may can swing 1500 if you find the right sales right now considering all the major players are releasing new drivers/wedges and some irons in the next few months. If you wait until all the latest greatest stuff comes out you’ll probably want to add $1000 to that number.
For instance ping and TM just discounted their current Woods. You can get wedges pretty cheap right now (I just bought a new set of SM7s for 100/each off eBay). Irons there is going to some difference in price depending on what you like. If your trying to stay around 1500 there are tons of great buys on eBay for super cheap compared to buying new that will be 1-2 years old with plenty life left on them.

The drivers are expensive, but if you get one you can put in play, it’s worth it.
Putters vary. Scotty Cameron’s are around 300, but a used putter with a new grip should work fine. A putter is the most important club. Take time and find what you need. It will save you the most shots.
Iron sets. Find ones you can swing. I would guess $750 would be solid for 5-P.
Figure out which wedge system works best for you(Vokey, Cleveland) and buy last years model. Do not buy used wedges unless someone literally only played sparingly with them.figure out what bounce and lofts fit for you. I carry a 52,56, and a 60, but you could just carry 2 if you ge the gaps right.
Find a hybrid and a fairway wood to fill out the set.
All in $1500 should be ok.

My 2 cents so take it for what it’s worth.
I would not worry about getting fit for wedges. As a 10 cap I assume you are pretty good with your wedges and hitting your driver well. How old is the driver? If it is over 10 yrs old you may need an update, but see if its possible to keep your shaft as long as it fits you well enough. Shafts for drivers can double the pricing.
Definitely get fit for irons/hybrids. They shouldn’t be too much if you don’t need costly shafts. Also, if you are good with your fairway woods then leave them be.
Putter fittings vary from fitter to fitter so I’d say use your own judgement. You’re a decent player so you won’t get hosed by a salesman. If you really like your putter then I would consider wedges over fairway wood fitting.

Everything from driver to putter is 15-20 years old and I want to replace everything, including the wedges. Nothing is fitted and both my putter and wedges were fitted for my cousin, who is much short than me.
Only club I may not replace is my Taylormade Burner 3 wood.

I estimated that a complete set of custom fitted clubs would be $3000-$4000. NEW
Drivers $300-500. Fairway (1) $250-300. Hybrid (1) $200-250. Irons 4-P $700-1,300. Wedges (3) $125-150 ea. Putter $125-400$. Custom shafts (13) $30-100. Grips (14) $5-15 with fat putter grips around $30. PLUS the fitting fee, usually $500.
That's around $3000 right there for NEW. Add the fitting fee and you are heading to $4000. This is what I was preparing for.
Yes, look for last years models for big savings. Would NOT get used irons or especially wedges, unless you can see the faces and determine that the grooves are still playable.

I guess it depends on where you are getting fitted and whether or not you are going to be fit into expensive shafts.
$1500 won’t get it done how you want. If you were a 20+ handicap you could get by with much cheaper options. My driver and ideal shaft cost $800.
If you’re gonna go through with it and you plan on golfing a lot over the next decade then spend the money to get what you like. You can always piece it together over time. I’d keep the 3 wood. Get driver and irons first.

Thanks for the tips. I have my fitting scheduled at golftec in a few weeks and will report back.

I loved the experience. I get geeked out over the stats and numbers - the process.
Was fortunate enough to WIN a complete bag fitting from Mizuno. It was amazing.
Had to fly to Toronto, but everything else was on Mizuno and TXG Golf Experience.

Got fitted at PXG last weekend - was an amazing experience. Will post a full writeup and review once my clubs arrive from the factory.

That's awesome, looking forward to hearing about it. I'm sure all the estimates were wayyyyy too low if you're going with PXG clubs

It will depend on your set up first and foremost.
Irons are crazy high compared to the last time you got a set, a cheaper set of name brand irons are around $100 a club and go up to about $200 a club.
A driver will cost you 300 to 500 depending on what you get and shaft in it. It can go higher depending on if you go exotic with the shaft.
fairway woods will cost you 200-400 depending on what you get again.
putter can cost you anything. If you find a $2 putter at goodwill that you love, game it.
Wedges are a big market now. they range all over the board too and have a lot more grind options and shaft options.
$1500 could be done if you take your time and get some good deals but the shafts might be stock shafts on a year or two old model. My suggestion if you are on a budget of $1500, I would go get fitted for head and shafts and try to price them out via eBay for the heads or golfwrx.com classifieds and then have them shafted.
