Outside of LIV he’s finished top 10 in 5 of his last 6 OWGR events. You clearly don’t like the data though

Dude, no one, including Rahm cares how he did in DPWT events. He had a top 10 finish in a major, a missed cut, and a 45th place finish last year. That’s a terrible year for him. It’s not even really arguable he hasn’t been nearly as good as he was in 2023. I wouldn’t say he’s a bum but he hasn’t been playing like a top 10 player in the world since he left the Tour

He’s still the 4th best golfer in the world

Ehhhh I think there’s still a clear top 4:

Scottie
Xander
Rory
Bryson

After that I think you get into the Aberg / Rahm debate. Rahm has kinda disappeared from everyone’s memory but I would say he’s still at worst 7 in the world.

I don’t know how you can possibly watch any golf at all and think this guy is overrated. He’s Ivan Drago.

I watch more golf than you.

OP was made in January.. results that happen after that do not give us the ability to travel back in time and pretend like he was not overrated in the past.

It’s also not an opinion I am permanently tied to. Like.. if he wins the Masters it would be stupid to think I still hold that opinion.

He wasn’t overrated in January either. It’s a horrible take. Own it.

You were simply proven wrong and pretty damn quickly at that.

How you think someone will perform in the future absolutely factors into how you “rate” someone. So calling someone overrated in January then having them win a signature event and contend at the masters in the next four months is a bad take

Lol. Am I hiding? I own that I said that and no success that comes after it invalidates it.

I am sorry that I do not put a lot of stock into a single career win in a Fall event over Mackenzie Hughes.

At this time I think he’s properly rated. It’s interesting you bump this thread as he is T2 at Augusta and not after his multiple missed cuts in recent weeks.

Um. That’s exactly how it works.

Next thing you’ll tell us is that you aren’t really sorry. It’s amazing that you ignored his other quality finishes though.

Seeing you in denial is justification for the bump. It’s entertaining.

When Aberg finished -4, I knew this thread would get bumped.

Interesting.. sort of like the golf equivalent of Bama football then.

I guess I just disagree. I wait for results.

And it’s only 1 round.

Aberg is the definition of over rated. “#5 in the world”, but he’s maybe top 10 on the PGA Tour currently. Look at datagolf

I stand by my statement that there is an argument that Niemann > Aberg, but one round or one tournament won’t be the deciding factor.

You posted this less than 3 weeks before he won. You literally could have waited for a few results this year and not looked like an idiot.

Dudes on the internet think I’m an idiot. I’ll survive. He had no business being treated like he was Scottie Scheffler in January.

Hell even after his win some poster called him the 2nd best player in the world. Somehow proving my point after he won a big event.

Does anyone think the world rankings that don’t include the LIV guys really give an accurate picture of ratings? I don’t think anyone would argue much with a top 10ish rating.

What strawman is this? Who treated him like Scheffler?

That was an overreaction for sure, but I’m more interested in how you downplay internet opinions and also use an internet opinion to make your argument in the same post. It takes multiple posts or pages for someone to start contradicting themselves but you managed to do it in back to back paragraphs. I’m impressed.

Referencing an official ranking in a broadcast doesn’t mean anyone believes it objectively. It’s only meant to signify how well he has played over the last 2 years vs his peers.
