People wearing Green Jackets at The Masters

So obviously the assumption is that means they are a member. However, it also seems like I see people who are basically facilitating the tournament like handing things out and getting people started wearing green jackets. So assumedly they have members doing menial tournament errands?
Just curious. I would assume while of course the club sponsors the tournament and provides the facilities and all of that, I wouldn't think members would be doing any leg work during it. Or do they really have members out there hustling and making sure that things are running?

The members feel a responsibility to help out with the tournament and do little things that would not be expected at the majority of clubs hosting tournaments.
One of the many reasons the Masters is so special.

They are basically waiters.
So if you are down by the pond at 16, take your shoes off and snap you fingers at them and hold up an open hand. They will bring you 5 beers almost immediately.
The club does not have enough money to stay open during the summer so the members often do odd jobs during the tournament. Be sure and tip them.

So if I see a guy holding a clip board kind of giving menial directions as if he were basically a volunteer at another tournament, and he's wearing a green jacket, he is a full member?
I agree that is pretty awesome. Also hilarious to imagine Warren Buffet or Bill Gates just out there directing people/signing them in/etc..

They have a contingent of local members who while prominent, aren’t all Bill Gates/Condi Rice types. Legacy members. I think those are mostly the ones you’re seeing directing traffic and doing tasks.

Pretty sure I just saw Condoleezza Rice dapping up players on the par 3 course, in her green jacket

If they are wearing a green jacket they are a member
I had one take my trash for me and throw it away
Likely 100 millionaire taking my trash out
Goodell was out there helping when I went as well in his green jacket

I've always wondered about that. I figured there has to be a healthy amount of members who are actually local and use the place almost like a normal country club. I'm sure the high profile ones come in for The Masters but I doubt they're coming in to golf even a dozen times a year.

I don’t think any of them play once a week. Most members are not from Augusta.
Many belong to the adjacent Augusta Country Club.

Members are assigned committees during the tournament. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to work an event with the best golfers in the world?

Back in 2011, my wife was 7 months pregnant and got to feeling sickly around 16. We went behind the stands and sat in the shade in one of the rock retaining walls. I was looking for the first green jacket to help by getting a cart to come and take us to the medical tent. Along comes a black man walking briskly down the trail. I stood up and got his attention and he came over. It was Lynn Swann. He stood there with us and called in for a cart and when it arrived he rode with us over to the medical tent which was really only a couple hundred yards away.

They’re a class act. Glad they took care of y’all.

You sound petty and jealous tbh

There is definitely a good number of local members, but I highly doubt they “use it like a normal country club”
