Thoughts On People Reselling Masters Tickets?

It’s 2019, not 1969 so I know there’s technology that can be developed to prevent those who resell their tickets from ever being offered tickets again. I hear stories of people getting tickets 3 or 4 years in a row and then I hear of others who apply for 20 years and never get a chance to see this beautiful course.

One pro of people being able to resell tickets: anyone who REALLY REALLY wants to go can pay $500 or even a couple grand to go see the greatest golf tournament known to man. I’ve read stories of life long golf fans with terminal cancer who just spent the money to go see it.

The biggest con in my opinion: People all over the country who don’t know the difference between a par and a birdie applying and then making hundreds of dollars after reselling tickets they never intended to use in the first place.

Any thoughts on this topic?

The masters ticketing system is stupid.

I read in Golf magazine how the same people get tickets every year. It’s like a family reunion. frick them. There are other people who would like to go. If they want to sell their tickets, fair market value will dictate price. The Masters is the one awarding them tickets.

Both sides will always happen. Does it suck? Sure. But so do several things in life. I mean, the people you describe here...

are just capitalists. Without getting political, I'd say if you can find a way to make some money, who am I to judge you?

If it's something on your bucket list, what is $500? I'm glad people sell their tickets which allows anyone that wants to go the ability to go.

I feel like these people are just as low as those who drive around trying to get someone to rear end them because it means dollar signs.

Golf is a game about respect, honesty, and dignity. It’s not a game that trashy people are fans of because they can’t be trashy.

People who use this as a “way to make some money” are trash. Just my opinion though. We can agree to disagree.

Tickets on stubhub right now are around $2200 and up and that’s before fees

I don’t really have a problem with how tickets are handled. It’s part of the reason why going to the Masters is such a big deal. It also helps to keep most of the riff raff out

This will be sure to piss someone off.

I can get Masters tickets for free, all days, yet I've never been.

Meh. I'm not big on walking. Gimme a cart.

Not even close to the same mentality imo.

No doubt. But it isn't trashy to try and make a profit off of winning tickets.

No can do. That's a lifetime blackball from my professional org. They remind us every yr how many people have been listed for selling them.

I'm also still waiting for someone who posts here to throw me a Hi, while on the course.

I've had one reader stop me and say he read what I've posted. High five to him! I enjoy our talks!

I resold a practice round ticket once but I did not do it for a profit. What happened was my wife and I got there first thing on a Tuesday morning and by lunch time we had seen most of what we wanted, we both had been there before.

As we were leaving there was a guy outside with his son of around ten years old or so looking for tickets and I sold him ours at face value. I don't have a problem with folks who do make a profit on their tickets but it felt good to give that guy a chance to show his boy the course without raping him.

The whole once you get tickets you have them for life thing is stupid AF. They should raise the prices and open up more tickets to a public lottery to give more people an opportunity to see the actual tournament instead of just practice rounds

There are still around 30 tickets left for today's round at $3k+. Will these tickets just go to waste if they don't sell? I don't understand that.

The public ticket lottery is the masters way of allowing others to see the course. The lifetime ticket system is intended to give the people of Augusta permanent access to the course which defines their community

how are these 2 different things given? I understand that john q. public can enter the lottery every year (which I have for a while with no luck..) and you get badges for whatever day that's a one-time only thing. How does one even get the lifetime passes? And is there a finite amount so new ones can only be given if a current holder dies?

The person who wins the lottery should have to register the tickets and IDs should have to be used to match with the tickets. It seems like an easy thing to accomplish.

I think if you sign up for the tickets and then sell them for 10 fold what you pay then you are human garbage.

Look up Rent-Seeking. It is people that provide zero value to this world yet try and make money off of the system. These kinds of people are terrible.

"A waiting list was created in 1972, and it closed in 1978. The only way to get series badges was to wait until your name was called, if you were lucky enough to even be on the waiting list.

In 2000, the waiting list was briefly reopened and fans who applied for practice-round tickets from 1998-2000 were added by random selection."

I have some friends who's families have lifetime passes, basically as long as they submit a check for the badges each year and it comes from his grandpas account, there is no questions asked. When he dies, the account would be removed from the list. I do believe that as long as they keep his grandpas bank account open, they would be able to keep getting the tickets however I am not sure how long they can realistically do this. The lifetime passes can not be inherited or passed down to my knowledge.
