Started a 5 day water fast today at 6pm. Trying to reset my body and reverse a couple months of shite eating.

The Darkhorse podcast recently did a long dry fast. I’m good with a weekly 24hr regular fast. Interested to see what you thing and how it’s goes. IMO, we eat and drink too much.

I did a three-day fast last July with just water/electrolytes & bone broth and it was tough, I can't imagine doing five days. I'm curious about your results.

When you do these what is your activity level like? Go about normal routine / business or you not doing much of anything?

I've done it twice, and done it both ways (being active and not being active). For me, I much rather being active and trying to go about everything as usual. I don't push myself nearly as hard in the gym, but you definitely get a surge of energy when ketones kick in.
It's pretty remarkable what the body is capable of doing in regards to healing itself during a fast. I plan to do it twice a year going forward.
Good luck, OP.

Hour 18 is a bitch.
Day 2 isn't very fun.
If you can make it to day 3, you can go the distance. If you are a heavy fellow, try going past day 5.
When you do finally eat, try bone broth with butter in it. Then, egg. Dont eat a heavy meal or you will pay for it on the toilet.
If you do fail on the straight up water fast, you can try a 3 day egg fast. Those really help me reset.
Good Luck!

Honest question - what are the benefits of doing something like this? Aside from weight loss, as that seems like an obvious one.
Sounds terrible, so I'm sure there's a good payoff if people do it. I just don't know anything about it.

It'll throw your body into deep ketosis quickly. It is also a great way to push through a plateau.
It's easier for people who are already fat adapted/have done carnivore/keto before. Your body seems to know the pathway to eating fat better. I've only done it once, and started it by accident. I was in ketosis and skipped breakfast, worked through lunch. It was dinner before I realized I hadn't eaten all day, so I just used it to my advantage. I made it 5 days and lost a shite tone of weight that week. I was very fat at the time.

Makes sense. One more question - is this useful in lowering BFP specifically or weight loss in general? I’m on the path to lower my BFP while maintaining (or ideally gaining) weight.
I feel like I’ve plateaued a bit so keeping an eye out for changes I can make to push myself further.

Starting weight was 189 last night but I haven’t been getting much sleep with work and I’ve been eating like shite. I assume I am holding a lot of water right now.
I will likely do extended HIIT tonight to try to get into ketosis. Compound lifts everyday thereafter.

Yes and no. I find it difficult to exercise hard while fasting. There will be some muscle loss due to not taking in calories if you can't lift, but your body will be living off your fat.

Try an egg fast. It's as easy as it sounds. Eat eggs! Some people will say you can't make deviled eggs or put cheese on the eggs, but I did and it worked well for me. I do notice that I CRAVE salt when I do it. Like I seriously keep a small sea salt cracker in my desk and just crack some in my hands a few times a day.

That makes sense and is really helpful. It would be counterintuitive to my goals to not be able to exercise as hard/lose muscle gains so I don't know if a water fast is right for me. Maybe some kind of intermittent fast would make more sense for my situation.
Never heard of an egg fast - going to check it out.

I don't see how you mofos have the discipline to only drink water for 5 days but can't manage to eat in a moderate calorie deficit for a few months.

Maybe some of us are doing both?

I finished a 7 day water and bone broth fast at the first of the year. It’s my 2nd longest fast, first being around 14 days. I just wanted to see how far I could go.
7 day fast and I dropped 12lbs, eczema issues were either gone or drastically better and I felt a lot better. Day 1-3 sucked. Days 4-7 weren’t fun but not near as bad as day 1-3. I also slept a lot better too.

Force yourself to take salt. My legs will cramp like crazy on long fasts if I dont

Gimme the 5 day fast over months of calorie restriction, which I really hate. The 5 day fast actually isnt that bad...its the boredom of not eating rather than the hunger that gets you

I hate even doing a 24 hour fast for a colonoscopy. There is no way I could get any work done during a 5 day fast. All I could think about was eating.
