Anyone dealt with Mono as an adult?

43 and very active in the gym 6 days a week.
In Feb I went to my doctor after feeling like shite for 2 weeks. Had a sore throat and thought it was allergies but tested positive for Mono. It's the last thing I ever thought I'd get.
I've had good and bad days since. It's been a month and the first 2 weeks i was doing great in the gym and didn't notice a difference. I then had 2 weeks off for a minor skin operation for removing a cancer cell, and I finally went back to the gym this week.
Since lifting and running again I've felt horrible every day. My whole body feels like it's been shocked. Everything aches and i have a horrible headache above my eyes.
I went back to the doctor yesterday and tested negative for covid and flu and he said it could still be the Mono since I went back to the gym and my body is still recovering.
What are your thoughts? It's odd because i felt 80-90% when i first was told i have mono and fast forward a month and i feel 65-70%. Wouldn't the rest from the skin surgery and it being a month later be better for fatigue and endurance?
Im so confused. FYI i went light in the gym this week. I didnt jump right back in. Light jog and weights just to get movements back.

Yep. The most sick I've ever been. It was terrible.
It took like a month to get my energy levels back too.

Agree with Salmon’s take. I had it in my late 20’s when I was extremely active in cycling and running and can honestly say it took me like 6 months to fully recover. It sucked.

When I got mono I drank a thing of orange juice and slept on the couch for like 15 hours and I was good to go. Kinda makes you wonder about these “long mono” patients

Can you tell me what your symptoms were?
I have bad allergies and they normally are bad this time of year so I don’t know what to attribute to mono or allergies

I had it and was misdiagnosed and given antibiotics, which I came to understand later is not recommended. Absolute miserable experience. Zero energy and worst sore throat of my life. Days later, I finally got diagnosed correctly and was prescribed prednisone. Not shitting when I say I felt 95% better within 30 minutes. I've never experienced such a dramatic effect from a medication in my life. Doctor warned that it was possible/likely that I could regress after finishing the steroid, but I was fine.

Initially terrible sore throat and body aches.
Then I was given antibiotics, which caused the “mono rash”, which gave me painful sores all over my hands and feet.
After all of that, just general lingering fatigue for a month.

I had mono when I was 23 and I ran fever for a month straight. It is the most miserable I’ve ever been.

Same, I got it when I was 21 or 22. The spinal tap was a pleasant experience, too.

Worst sickness ever. For two months I couldn’t stay awake longer than 6 hours straight.
Damaged my liver because it sent my enzymes through the roof.
Also had strep throat combined with it.

Only had it once at 19 during time at LSU ‘96. Seemed like it got worse after the initial diagnosis. I was taking two summer classes and a struggle to walk around campus in heat.
I graduated HS at 170 lbs and have always been in the 165-180 range since then. Other than the temporary dip to about 157 lbs during that Mono illness.

It takes a while to get over mono. If you do any exercise during the recovery period, keep it light. Lifting heavy weights is a bad idea because mono can cause the spleen to be enlarged. It could possibly rupture which is why the CDC suggests avoiding contact sports until you fully recover.
