If so, did you use a particular vendor for a portable gym?

I just really need about 400-500 pounds of barbell bumper plate weights. Kettlebells, sone dumbbells, chains and bands, an adjustable bench, plus a pull-up apparatus.

Other bars such as safety squats, trap bar, deadlift bar can come later. I’m also not looking into buying everything immediately

Rogue, Rep Fitness, Bolt, Fringe Sports are some good ones. Also, I see ads a lot from a company called Bells of Steel.

Or you can go to Academy and get a lot of it.

There are a lot of us here that went that route. I bought Cap plates, dumbbells, and kettlebells. I bought the Rogue wall mount squat rack and my bench and plyo box from Rep. Just remember the rule of thumb...buy once, cry once.

Oh, and check out FB Marketplace and you might find someone selling a whole lot for a good price.

By the way, Fringe is selling bumper plates right now for 10% off. Fringe and Rep run sales every week.

Rogue R3 rack or rml if you decide you want something beefier. I have the r3, 95% of the world doesn't need 3x3 posts but that's where all the accessories are.

Rogue Ohio bar or Ohio power bar

Whatever bumper plates you can find the cheapest

Powerblocks for dumbbells

Rep adjustable bench

If money is no object, Rogue. Titan fitness equipment is good IMO. I have their squat stands with a pull up bar, SSB, and a couple of bumpers. The stands are solid and they will fit all the rogue accessories.

ETA: Rep fitness bench is the top notch. You can’t go wrong with the Ohio power bar or Texas power bar.

This is a post (below) I did a while back in another thread. I’m in my gym 3-4 days per week. It is perfect for PPSA which I’m a devout follower. I’ve added some fans from Costco and a swamp cooler for summer workouts. In my part of the world it can be 95+ degrees at 5AM when I usually start.

Old post:
I strongly suggest checking out garage gym reviews YouTube channel. Coop does a fantastic job reviewing pretty much anything related to home gyms. Since COVID I’ve gone all in on the home gym and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a huge Rogue fan. It is a little pricey but not near sorinex and other high end companies. I think with Rogue you get what you pay for. Their quality and customer service are off the charts. My setup is below and again I’m super happy with it.

Rack: Rogue RM-6 Monster 2.0 (matador dip bar, landmine, crown pull up bar attachments). I also have the shrimp trawler off the side with an 80 lb heavy bag.

Bench: Rogue AB-3. I picked this one bc it has the incline/decline bench option and incline sit-ups as well.

Bars: Rogue Ohio power bar. Rogue EZ curl bar.

Plates (# of pairs): Rogue deep dish 45 (3), deep dish 25 (1), Olympic change plates 10 (3), 5 (2), 2.5 (1), Rogue HG bumpers 45 (2), 35 (1), 25 (1), 10 (1)

Dumbbells: Powerblocks pro series with extension to 90 lbs. Love my powerblocks. They are pretty much bullet proof. They take a little getting used to bc of the shape but I’m a big fan now.

Also have assorted bands and collars.

Rogue will periodically run a special where you get free shipping on your entire order with a rack purchase. I spent like 5 grand on shite and didn’t pay a dime on shipping. Makes a huge difference

Built it out during the start of the pandemic when I had to set up alerts for stock and Rogue seemed to be pretty much the only one that I could catch in stock so everything is Rogue.

That said I will probably stick with them for any of my needs in the future because almost everything they make is made in the USA. Quite a few of the things that were made elsewhere had their production moved to the US because of the supply chain issues and I try and support made in the USA.

Last I checked bumpers and dumbbells were still made in China but I that may have changed recently.

Honestly, it's the best money I've spent on myself in years. My "gym" is open whenever I need it to be and I can fo whatever I want without waiting or altering my workout.

Also gives me no excuse to not lift. I love it.

The best, most cost efficient thing to do is keep an eye on Facebook marketplace. I've outfitted most of my gym from there.

Off the top of my head I've picked up:
Ohio power bar stainless $125
90 lbs powerblocks $200
Xmark incline/decline bench $100
Various kettle bells and some gymnastic rings for cheap

I'm sure I gave a few others things that I can't think of

I went with Bells of Steel gear in Canada for my basement gym because REP and Titan didn’t have Canadian stores, and Rogue was way out of my price range. I like everything I have accumulated (FID bench, light commercial rack, barbell and 335lbs plates, deadlift pads, Landmine, split squat pad, cable pulleys, straps for hanging leg lifts) and it’s all held up well after a year of use. The fit and finish I’d say is “okay” but it was cheaper by a lot from anything else I could find local or online and like I said it has all held up fine. The rack is 2.3x2.3” not 3x3, but they have basically every accessory I would want so other than being locked into their system I haven’t had issues. It came with spotter straps, roller cups for bench and nice nylon sandwich j cups. Here’s my basement gym:

In the US I think they are probably similar to Titan fitness or maybe REP in terms of quality and not sure they are cheaper. I believe they do packages where you can buy weights, benches, bars, and racks and the more you spend the more you save.

I've decided to go with bells of steel,

but looking at their prices and bundle, im going to go with the hydra power rack, ill have to wait for the belt squat and landmine apparatus/connections since i was told there wasnt one available for it yet.

but consider the plyo boxes i want, plus the bands, chains, barbells, squat racks, adjustable bench. im getting a great deal with good quality plus free shipping.

also im just gonna put some heavy duty horse mats on my garage, its a lot cheaper and just as effective.

This is what I did in my spare room. Haven't had a problem, but they STINK when you first get them. I recommend putting them outside and scrubbing them down with some detergent and a broom, then letting them dry in the sun for a few days. The smell eventually dissipates but it's rough at first.

I have a power rack, two barbells, weight plates, and horse mats in a room in my house. I tried to go cheap at one of the local $15/month gyms but they only had two power racks and they were often either taken and/or people waiting on me to finish (and I prefer longer rests between sets).

I got a TDS power rack for around $350. Really good deal, imo. I got the weight plates from Dick's Sporting Goods.

I started with the academy black friday special with a crappy barbell and 250lbs of plates.

I picked up a titan rack (forgot the cost), and an Amazon flat bench for $35 that I still use. I have a set a garage sale db's.

Later, right around August '19 I upgraded to an Ohio Power Bar and some Rouge plates.

I pick up a cheap $120 hex bar on Amazon because I am never competing and they feel better for me.

I love it.

Rep Fitness rack and cable setup that I got on black Friday a couple years ago. Rogue HG plates and a few miscellaneous medicine balls and kettle bells.
