FYI: GNC has InBody machines in stores for free usage.

It must set differently than the one I’ve used before, because it ran through the scan in less than 30 seconds. It must be said of differently than the one I’ve used before, because it ran through the scan less than 30 seconds.
Seemed accurate.

This is pretty smart but there are some locally owned stores in Houston that I know of that have had these for a while and use it as a way to get people in the stores.

Which store did you go to?

I had my first inbody scan just yesterday. It was a 270, and it took no more than 30 seconds, probably right about that.

well... were are the results posted lol

have some patience, I had to dig out the special inbody scan thread.
actually, I will probably just put it in the puttheforkdown thread, suffice to say, "I'm a very big boy", but at least my guesses in regards to my metabolism(had a RMR test done as well) and body fat% were accurate. I've been placing myself between 30-35%, closer to 35%, just based off a visual assessment in the mirror, and my scan was 34% so I'm pretty good at guessing my fatness. I'm thinking about getting a job at the county fair guessing weights.

Where can you get this done at?

Juban Crossing store off I-12
It was a 270 at GNC.
The gym has a 570 but they charge $11 per usage and it’s more in depth and takes a full minute.
The 270 had me at 16.5% body fat whereas the gym’s machine had me at 13.5% the last time I used it.
I’ll pay $11 again today to compare the two.
I bought a container of Glutamine for post workout.

Which gym? Been looking to have one done.

Make sure to strip down to your underwear so you get an accurate reading.

Realistically though, how accurate is the InBody Scan device?
30 years ago, bio-impedance devices for estimating body composition were not very accurate, and were "off" by approx 5% or more compared to the then-gold standard of underwater weighing. DEXA scans were within 3% accuracy.
Can anyone here speak to technological improvements or improved accuracy?

Use it to notice trends

Fair point regarding consistency, but not necessarily accuracy, unless that has changed. Hence, my question.

No I don't think anything has changed as far as I know. They are still inaccurate but I've had several and it does seem consistent. I always do them first thing in the morning before eating, drinking, or showering

dexa are still +/- 3%
bio depends on the model. The inbody that gnc uses is usually one of the lower models. Also it all depends on you, are you doing it the same time everytime before you ingest anything...even water? if so and its an inbody 580 or 770 instead of the 270....gonna be much more accurate. I would compare the 770 to dexa. 970 would be essentially be about as accurate as dexa except it cant tell things like bone density etc
the difference is the number of impulses it puts through the body and the number of frequencies it uses. the old scales used 1 or 2 impedence and 1 frequency. InBody scans also send signal through the feet and hands allowing much better accuracy.
the inbody scales use this
270-10 impedance measurements
2 frequencies at each of the
5 segments (RA, LA, Trunk, RL, LL)
380- 15 impedance measurements
3 frequencies at each of the
5 segments (RA, LA, Trunk, RL, LL)
580-20 impedance measurements
4 frequencies at each of the
5 segments (RA, LA, Trunk, RL, LL)
770- 30 impedance measurements
6 frequencies at each of the
5 segments (RA, LA, Trunk, RL, LL)
970- 40 impedance measurements
8 frequencies at each of the
5 segments (RA, LA, Trunk, RL, LL)
you can read about the different models here LINK

The Cortana Mall location was awesome and always busy. It was definitely the best store in the city.

Thank you for that response.
Looks like impedance has really come a long way.

Used the 570 at GCF recently,

13.3% here. Was 16.7% about a month ago. Hitting a plateau now.
