TLDR: I caught the adult version of Hand Foot Mouth Disease from my daughter and it's terrible. There is an increase in adults getting infected this year. Take more precautions than I did if your kid comes home with this.

My daughter caught this at her school and had it all last week. Her doctor told us it was rare for adults to catch it and if so, usually asymptomatic.

Well guess who caught it from her? This guy. The doctor that I visited told me that it is USUALLY rare in adults, however this year they have seen both an increase in HFM and RSV cases in adults.

This shite ain't no joke. Thursday night I had a mild sore throat/sinus drip. Woke up Friday morning and it was gone, felt fine.

Friday night it hit me like a ton of bricks. Sore throat, malaise, exhaustion, light headedness, chills like I was running a fever however it never got above 99.4 to my knowledge. Of course my first thought is COVID. Slept like shite that night.

Sat morning I head to the doctor, got a COVID test which was negative. Got some meds prescribed for sinusitis. I was exhausted all day Saturday, still had the chills a bit. And the sore throat was getting worse. Complete loss of appetite.

Yesterday I felt much better overall. I started noticing the bottom of my feet were sensitive when walking, so I started thinking about the HFM my daughter had just gotten through. Sure enough red bump rash on the bottom of my feet and palms of hands. By yesterday afternoon my entire mouth was hurting, gums tongue and all.

Today I went back to the doctor and got diagnosed with HFM. I've got blistering and sores in my mouth that I can't hardly stand unless i'm sucking on a chloraseptic lozenge. Every time I swallow, it feels like shards of glass are going down. The red bumps on my hands and feet are much more apparent and the ones on the palms of my hands itch. I can't hardly take the lid off of a water bottle because of the soreness. The bumps have spread to my face and my nostrils. A couple of them have already blistered and scabbed over.

I have a feeling I still have a ways to go to get through this. It typically runs its course in 7-10 days and I'm only on day 3. I've read stories of folks even losing fingernails and toenails due to the rash and blistering.

I took zero precautions when mixing with my kid while she was sick, and now i'm paying for it. Hoping I can save someone from making the same mistake! Call me a p*ssy or whatever names you want, but this isn't fun.

I caught this from my son a few years back. I felt shivering cold, but my fever was 104. It was definitely no joke. I felt fine after a day or two, but that was the worst I felt in a long, long time.

My SIL had it recently and I took to calling it hoof and mouth disease. I was the only person who thought that was funny.

That’s funny. Don’t let the haters get to you.

Picked up some of that today. It was between that or another tip I saw online to use some mouth numbing spray from the adult store made for deep throating. I opted for the route that would make me not look like a homo and got a script for the lidocaine. It does help but seems to wear off fast for me. And the directions say 4 times daily, that ain’t nearly enough lol

Mix equal parts of viscous lido, Benadryl and mylanta. Swish and swallow.

Your case sounds about as bad as mine, if not worse. My hands and feet itched for 2 days and then burned for 2 more until the blisters starting coming to the surface.
The blisters took 4-5 weeks for the skin to regrow and about 2 total months until I was able to really use them, like opening jars and buttoning shirts. Then a couple of my nails fell off.

frick HFM disease.

Ugh, I really don’t wanna lose nails. And I feel like a lot of my finger nails are feeling sensitive right now.

Go to the doctor and get prescribed Magic Mouthwash. You’ll thank me after you try it.

Not trying to open a can of worms, but did you get vaccinated for covid? just wondering if this is caused by the ADE stuff or lowered immunity.

Got it 7 years ago. I’d much rather have covid again.

Swallowing water might as well been shards of glass. Finally took a Percocet my wife had left over from c section and downed a gallon.

shite was HORRIBLE.

Mouth and throat soreness finally gone, can eat normal food again. Seems like my rash might be starting to fade away. Skin on my hands are super dry now, i'm assuming the whole hand peeling will commence soon. All fingernails hanging on for now. I hope the worst is behind me. It sucked! Face still looking like a leper too. Nose/nostrils hard and cracking around the edges from all the rash scabbing inside and out.

7 week update...in the 2-3 weeks following Hurricane Ida, all the top layer of skin peeled off my hands and bottom of my feet. I'm now on the verge of losing at least 6 fingernails. Not sure yet if I will lose any toenails or not. Hard to believe i'm still dealing with the remnants of this almost 2 months later, no fun at all!

Holy shite. I’ve been ignoring this thread because I assumed it would be mundane, but I was wrong!
