I have been finding that I have been struggling to recover more from my training routine. I run 4-5 times per week, probably 30ish mpw, and lift anywhere from 2-4 times per week. I have been looking into different programs to run and I stumbled across Tactical Barbell. It seems to be geared towards concurrent training. Does anyone have experience with this program?

I’ve done it and like it. It’s simple and quick. I have two young kids so my workouts aren’t as long at the moment.

Only thing is I add a lot of accessories as I feel it wasn’t enough.

I did Operator and Zulu. It’s been a few years but my mains were bench, squat, weighted pull-ups and I would throw in deadlift and shoulder press one day a week

Probably one of the last programs I’d do if I having recovery problems

I felt straight up beat up most the time running it

You get strong as frick but if you already have issues this might not be for you

Is the running messing you up or the lifting?

How’s your sleep? Are you eating properly? Are you managing stress in your life? These could also be contributing to your recovery issues. Why not scale back the running a little bit? Or decrease your overall lifting volume per week? Might not be the program design itself. Might want to just scale it back so you can recover. Then give gas when you’re ready.

That's interesting - it reads as if it's literally designed for concurrent training so I'm surprised to see you saying it did the opposite for you.

Yeah - I think you hit the nail on the head here:

I had a 'come to Jesus' moment last night - I need to decrease my TM numbers, at least for my lower body, if I want to continue to lift 2-3 times a week.

Not sure that it's either of them but more the combo of consistent running with heavier strength training. I'm just going to drop my squat/deadlift TMs and see if that helps.

I'm between 5/3/1 and TB. They seem pretty similar to me, honestly.

I run for two reasons: 1, alone time lol but 2, my sister and I do this together so it's kind of our thing. We run trail halfs during the spring and fall weekends and run a marathon at the end of October. I am not going to stop doing it, so just trying to balance it all. I'm not looking for powerlifter strength, just slow and steady progress.

yea dont stop, that shite is important if you are spending with sibling.

i always ask because many that are looking for aesthetics tend to think lots of running is the key

you are doing it for all the right reasons

i would say 531 is much more subtainable over time, especially if you do something like 5s pro.

Yeah, I honestly think the running hurts my aesthetics overall. Maybe as we get older and she has kids we will slow down the running, but for now it is what it is and I don't mind not getting everything out of myself under the bar.

I was toying with 5/3/1 5s PRO - I think that's where I will start.
