I have a feeling I'm going to pull the trigger today on a gym package through a local company here in Houston called Bolt Fitness Supply. As a package, you seem to get quite a bit compared to going through Rogue/Rep/Etc.. For 1400 (tax included) you get a rack with 2x3" tubing, adjustable bench, barbell, and bumper set 10-15-25-35-45's. Saving several hundred compared to going with Rogue and saving a little over going with Rep and getting a sturdier rack for the price.

What are the boards thoughts on kind of an "off brand"? What quality gaps should I really look for when I go look in person? Do you see a major issue with resale value if I ever need to sell in the future? The resale value is really by biggest concern so far. I know the barbell is likely not the best in the world, but I can always upgrade to something like the Ohio Bar and still be under the total price for going with Rogue.

Picture of the setup (will have adjustable bench and bumper plate set instead of what is shown here)

Never sell, stay jacked. Problem solved

But seriously, I think the current obsession with on-brand expensive/elite home gym equipment is kind of a joke. Unless you’re competing at an Olympic level, it’s really not that important to have equipment or bars that are even remotely good, nor does it make your gains better or your workout noticeably easier or more efficient. So on that front, I’d say don’t worry about it. As long as the weights weigh what they say they do and the rack isn’t a wobbly piece of shite, which it sounds like it isn’t, the setup is probably adequate for your and 99.999% of people’s purposes.

Just my $.02. I had a long olympic lifting career and spent the first 5+ years of it using an off brand bar with collars that barely rotated when you spun them. The fact that people are going out and spending thousands on Eleiko bars that are meant to be used in the olympics is pretty funny to me, I think your setup sounds great and will serve you well. Probably won’t resell for the amount that Rogue would just based on how how reselling works across the board, but yea. I’m sure you could get a fair amount either way

So bolt stuff is good and built perfectly fine. But you want to be 3x3 doesn't matter if 5/8" or 1". But you want to be 3x3 for accessories.

I bought a set of cheap arse CAP Fitness weights 3 years ago. I immediately weighed all the plates, expecting them to be way off. They were exactly as labeled. I have had zero problems with rust, and the bar looks and works like new.

I did go with a Titan rack because I didn't want the thing collapsing on me. It's been fine too, although it was a bitch to assemble by myself.

Yea I feel like the rack is the only thing to not skimp on for the reason you said shitty weights and bars will last pretty much forever in my experience too unless you own a gym or something, and even then they’ll last a really long time

I would spend money on a good bar. It doesn’t need to be anything super fancy, but the last thing you want is to have a bar that bends because it either can’t handle the load or it can’t sustain aggressive use.

Yeah I mean $200 dollars on a rogue boneyard bar is the way to go if you are wanting to go cheap on a bar. More if you want stainless steel. But $200-$400 should get you a bar that you can hand it down to your kids.

Good barbell and rack are about the most important things. Maybe a decent bench.

Had never heard of Bolt until now, but most of my equipment from Get RX'd in Houston and have been satisfied. Obviously not Rogue quality, but get bonus of patronizing a Texas based business and avoiding shipping charges with pickup.

Ended up getting it today. Too convenient being able to pick up locally. They have everything set up in a warehouse showroom and it all looked fine to me for the price. I'd probably not use these bumper plates in a commercial gym, but they'll last me forever in sure. Other than that I'm only pleasantly surprised so far. The bar it came with actually seems very nice, but only time will tell.

I looked at Get Rxd as well, but some stuff looked to be sold out and honestly just found Bolt first and nothing on the Get Rxd site swayed me away.

I like those bars. We have a couple in the gym that can really take a beating. They go on sale fairly regularly, too, if I’m not mistaken.

yea the boneyard bar are just teh regular bars with blemish. My ohio bar is like that and i literally can not find the blemish.

as far as bolt, they make good equipment. in line with getrxd, fringe etc. better than titan

i would rate

legend, assualt, ghost etc

sorinex, rogue, powerlift, elitefts, williams strength, etc

rep, blackwidow etc

getrxd, bolt, etc

titan

There stuff looks like "Rogue inspired". I have to check into these guys since Houston is just a couple hours away for me.

Think it's definitely worth a look. You can put your hands on everything at their facility and pick up right then and there if its in stock. They actually have a lot that doesn't appear to be on their website, like I know there was a safety squat bar, weight vests, etc.. I'll admit the compressed rubber bumpers look like they could chip and stuff over time compared to the roque mil spec plates I've used before (which are $200 more). But other than that, everything seems made well enough. I ended up at $1625 total with tax and that was adding in 2.5 and 5 lb plate pairs, and 26/35/53 lb kettle bells, and some collar clamps. Ended up also having a 0% for 24 months deal, so I'm dropping my gym membership and can pay this off at less per month than going to the crowded gym (although I'll probably just pay this off)

I did go with the 2x3 as it was just a bit narrower and a little less on cost. I have a woodworking shop in my garage as well, so space gets tight. The 3x3 racks looked really good though. Plus they came with safety straps over bar systems. I may regret not just spending the money, but at the same time, the rack seems great so far.

Just comparing the Rogue RM-4 90" with the Storm Series Barbarian. They seem pretty similar size wise and the Bolt is about $600 less. That's pretty significant.

I try to keep all my stuff in that garage bay mobile in case a storm or something is coming and we need to pull the wife's car in. With no weight, we can currently slide around pretty easy and can get it to the other side of the garage temporarily with a furniture dolly. I'm thinking of bracing it to the wall behind though with a quick way to disconnect if needed. Worried bolts in the concrete would mess up the usefulness of that garage bay when we have to shift it around.

Yes, the price differences were definitely significant.

Get some Female Anchor Bolts and you can bolt it to floor while lifting and unbolt it if you need to move it. My neignbor has a couple of these and they work fine.
