Was listening to a podcast yesterday regarding blood pressure, and there was discussion about the proper way to take it. Namely, at rest with the measuring arm at chest level for ~5 min prior to taking the reading.

Retested and was 126/80, much better than my 144/90ish reading I typically get, and only change was positioning and rest prior to taking.

Just changing my sitting position made my regular reading for the blood donation go down by 15 or so in both numbers. It matters.

What did you change?

Also, remember to test before morning coffee. If you're wearing snug jeans or a belt, loosen them up before getting rested to test.

Those are great numbers Jim, but have you compared your meter with your doctors meter?

I've always had the problem of mine running high when I first get checked in a doctor's/dentist's office. It never fails...sky high at the beginning, then its way down at the end of the visit.

It's weird. I went years not having this problem, and then randomly started having it in the last couple of years. Sometimes it's better at the end, but not always.

I need to get a monitor for at home since I know it's not actually high. I went my entire life with it perfect until I started getting anxiety at the doctor.

The same thing happened to me.

I bought a meter and started checking it at home, but sometimes I still get anxiety when I check it.

Don't cross lower legs, everything at a right angle from hips to knees to ankles, arm resting on a surface at heart level, and other arm relaxed on other leg

I have a monitor at home and I stop by the neighborhood CVS and hop on their BP chair maybe once a week.

123/85 this morning. I blame the cold weather. It's usually 110's over 70's.

I actually don't have a doctor. The ophthalmologist was the last one I've seen. Before that I cant tell you how long it's been.
