13-Day post hydroseed picture added pg 2: Establishing a 1-acre Bermuda lawn from scratch

In the next month or so, my home will be ready for a lawn to get established. The concrete work and final grading will be done, and topsoil will be added. My problem is I don't want to spend the $$$ to sod the yard. I have about 1 acre of lawn total. I'll get hydroseeding estimates, but I may just slit seed it myself since I plan on having an irrigation system. But I do have a few questions.
1. The house will be between Ruston and West Monroe, so I need to go to see what seed types are carried near here. But is there another online retailer besides outsidepride.com and hancock seed? Shopping options are always great.
2. It looks as though Arden 15 and Princess 77 are out of stock at Hancock seed. Is there another variety I should look at that is readily available? The front of the house faces west, and the north side of the house is where the garage/driveway is. So the entire yard will get a bunch of sun throughout the day. Most in the neighborhood have centipede, but I'm just not a big fan of it. I'd prefer the look of some of the bermuda varieties.
3. Has anyone on here hydroseeded themselves? If so, is it really doable? I'll wait to see what the estimates come back as, but I am leaning towards a DIY project. Since I will have an irrigation system, I'm not opposed to slit seeding instead.
4. Do any of y'all have an irrigation company recommendation that you've used in my area? I'm just beginning to look at them. I'm not looking forward to the price, but doing this myself might be a bit much (especially based on how much time it would take me). Thanks!

Says those are discontinued not out of stock. Says replaced or similar to Yukon Bermuda.

I’ve ordered from both of them and highly recommend. There’s others, but I’ve had great luck with the products from these two.

It may simply be unavailable at the moment. Email them and see when they are getting inventory. It usually only comes in stock for a few months.
You can also ask them for recommendations. There are a ton of Bermuda options that you’ll need to consider, including blends. Blackjack, Highland, Royal, etc. I switched from Arden 15 to Royal TXD to save a little cost. Arden 15 is very expensive to do large areas.

My neighbor built his own rig for his side x side. He seeded some rye this winter and it looks like it worked great. He mentioned the cost for the rig and it would likely be uneconomical for only 1 acre. We each have several acres we’re trying to seed.
I’ve been seeding my 4 acres in portions. I usually do 10-15k sqft at a time. Depending on rain or weather, and I can prep, seed, water, and grow in a few weeks. Then move to the next area. You’ll need an irrigation system or a bunch of hoses.

I do not. Do you really need it over the full 1 acre? What about doing it around the area surrounding the house only?

Hancock specifically says Arden replaced Princess, and Arden 15 is now discontinued. Not sure how you think discontinued means unavailable at the moment

I’m disappointed in the fact that Pennington couldn’t produce Arden 15. They blamed worker shortages. It appears that someone is trying to produce princess 77 again which is a gorgeous grass. Sahara II sounds like it would be a viable option.

have you considered sprigging your yard. Call a sod farm in your area and ask if they can sprig a 1 acre yard with Bermuda or even consider Zoysia. Sprigs will shorten the grow in time and water used. quicker establishment, less erosion, and more uniform coverage.

I put down a small section of Arden 15 just to see what it looks like and was going to try and have a small putting green. It’s very good looking and stayed green well through November.

I did this exact thing about four years ago on the same size yard. I ended up going with the hydroseed route. When you look at the equipment and what it takes to do it right you will probably break even. It was $2,500 to do the whole yard which included the seed and labor. Seeded Daniela Bermuda and really like it. IMO, Bermuda is the easiest grass type to have because of its drought resistance and ease of maintenance.
I drug hoses for four months and it was a huge PITA. I just could swing an irrigation system as well at the time. If you have that as an option it should make it a lot better.

Having about 12k sf hydroseeded tomorrow with a rye and bermuda mix. About $1800. That includes a good bit of leveling and grading.

Reporting back as promised. I got a quote for Daniella Bermuda and it should run right around $2,200-$2,500 depending on how much seed/material he needs to use. Gardens aren’t laid out yet so there’s some variance. I’m very happy with the quote and the quality of work he does. He’s done other houses in the neighborhood and he was recommended.

$2500 for just the seeding or including ground prep? I was just preliminarily looking at pricing last year and the company I talked to said $4k per acre no site prep… $10k if I wanted zoysia. I had moved on lol but it looks like I need to revisit. I’m in the Lafayette area if anyone has recommendations for a reputable company.

Who’d you use? I need a quarter acre graded and seeded in NOLA.

Name of company? How much leveling and grading needed to be done? Using mason sand?
