Best Squirrel Bait

I have got a squirrel(s) in my attic and I plan on catching him. What should I use for bait in the trap?

In your attic? Are you by chance feeding birds close to your house? If so that is why. Anyway, if using rat traps use chunky peanut butter. If using a live trap cage, use a jar lid with whole unsalted sunflower seeds in it.

I have got a little live-catch trap. I hadn’t thought at\bout sunflower seeds…I might try that! Was planning to use peanut butter.

Local pest control trapper uses seafood flavored cat food for all his traps.

Yep, sunflower seeds will work. I caught a problem squirrel in less than an hour with them in a have a heart trap. Loaned the trap and a bag of seeds to a neighbor, and he caught a few more.

Caught one with deer corn in attic quickly.

I had one in mine a few years ago. They should go outside during the day and you can find the hole where they are getting in and plug it. But if they have babies up there they will try like crazy to get back in. Once it gets hot in the attic I think they move out for the summer. I could be wrong but this was my experience.

I dealt with this for 3 years. Do not catch it/them right now. It most likely had babies in your attic this winter and you need to wait for it to get hot enough for them to move out. They will def move out and that is when you catch them or seal up with wire mesh and foam to keep them from getting back in. I caught 20 squirrels in a squirrelinator trap over 6 months last year and that finally did the trick to keep them from moving into my attic this winter.
What I did though was put the squirrellnator at the base of the tree they were using to get on my roof. Used critter feed I bought at lows. Mainly corn with some sunflower and peanuts in it.

Haven’t thought about babies until you and Cannon’s posts. Thanks…I would have had a bunch of dead squirrels stinking in my attic! I will wait until the summer and then go up and check it out.

Peanut butter on a rat trap.

A squirrel will eat anything: lawnmower wiring, lead plumbing boots, chain link fence ties, the molded characters from my granddaughter's fairy garden, anything you are fond of, those bastards will eat. I'd suggest feeding them some lead. Or a grenade.

Squirrels love peanuts in the shell.

Ok, forget the bait. Get a cat and set him loose in the attic. The squirrel bolts out of the hole from which it came. Call kitty back to attic access and return it to neighbors yard. Then fix hole in Fascia or soffit.
It worked for me.

I smear a little peanut butter on a cracker and the smash the cracker( peanut butter side down) ).. onto the trigger thing in the trap..
The thing that really started helping was putting a few popcorn seeds on the outside of the trap and then trailing them into the trap.. the popcorn seeds helped a lot..
I was never able to catch them actually in the attic.. I set the trap out side

Get a large spring mouse trap, screw it to the floor in your attic. Put a big wad of peanut butter on it and you will catch him in one day
Ask me how I know. If they are flying squirrels, you will catch 10-15 before they are gone

Bird food since squirrels are always in the feeders!
