Any advice or experience with concrete or asphalt driveways.

And what are estimates on these?
I know crazy expensive and I need almost 400-600 yards of one. So trying to see if worth it. Thanks.

400-600 yards? You better have deep pockets or plan for gravel

yards as in distance, right?

Because hopefully you’re not buying 600 cubic yards of concrete

Asphalt would be cheaper if there is an asphalt project near by but if they move the equipment and mix product just for your job, there is no cost benefit.

According to my calculations, you will need ~160 cubic yards of concrete which is roughly $20k

You need limestone. My driveway is 600 yards and I spent about $2,500 in limestone.

You are looking at north of $200,000 for concrete. You could do crushed concrete and spread dry mix over it. It will lock in tight

of concrete? thats roughly 75k in concrete alone. You are looking at 150k for this. WTF??

if you are talking length, looking at 250+ yards at 4" thick which is still over 30k in concrete alone and prolly looking at between 75-100k in total install. frick all that.

dude unless you are stupid rich, just go crushed concrete and use some of the savings on sprucing up the landscaping.

Pour concrete around the garage for extra parking and turning around then gravel the rest. The more concrete you have the less dirt you will track into your garage. Few years down the road you can asphalt the rest once you know you have a good base.

What one of my friends did out in the country. Had several dump trucks of larger pieces of gravel trucked in and spread. Maybe 150 yards from the road to the house. Driving on it for several years got it packed in, then they paved over that. They used those 6 inch tall metal edging pieces like you'd see around landscaping beds for maybe 20 feet near the house and at the road. Just to keep it from spreading, but the bulk of the length was just gravel.

I did 10500 sq ft of asphalt driveway in 2016. At the time, it was a good bit cheaper than concrete. I had a gravel road before that I drove on for 4 years and had a good base established. However, when the contractor laid the road, he removed all the gravel and laid down 2 inch crushed stone base on the existing road, and on a new circular drive, 4 inch crushed base, and 2 inches thick asphalt over the top of all of it. All is was around 30-35k. That has held up much better than my concrete parking pad which of course has various cracks. On the asphalt, I did have it sealed about a year later, and regularly monitor for small holes which I fill with patch. Big fan of the asphalt and while expensive, it has been well worth the cost.
