What is a reasonable price to pay for having a pond dug?
1/4 acre pond. 6-8 feet deep. No trees or other obstructions. Dirt remains on property.
Any idea?

probably $10k-$15k if you're keeping the dirt.

I'd consider taking a week off work and renting the equipment. Bulldozer and/or excavator.

good point. is this a straight dug pond like somewhere in south louisiana or a dam and dig pond like in a hilly area (north shore/mississippi)?

Why even have such a small pond?? I don't think I would mess with it less than an acre or two.

I have a 1/4 acre pond that was at my house when I moved in, it’s been a huge pain in my arse. It silted in and got extremely shallow. I’ve battled grasses and Lillie pads like crazy. And finally I just had it dug out which killed all my fish and made a giant stinky mess. Now I’ve got 2 mountains of mud/clay/dirt sitting in my yard and nothing to do with it.

damn, some haters. i have about a 1/5 acre pond, kidney shaped with deep holes on each end. Of course like every pond near me (big and small) it's bone dry right now... One day i'll put a well.

1/5 acre is a water hole, not a pond.

Approx. 4 years ago I had a pond dug. They relocated the dirt on my property a few hundred yards and spread it for a pad for my shop. They charged me per dump truck load, the trucks held approx. 10 CY. It was about 75 loads for my shop and they hauled another 25-30 loads out for a couple of my neighbors. Final result was a 1/4 acre pond, deepest point was about 10-12'deep. They charged me $60 per load so my portion cost about $4,500 and my neighbors paid another $1,500 to 1,800.

The equipment they used were pieces of shite that barely stayed running, tracks falling off the excavator all the time. I'm surprised they were even able to get it done, took way longer than it should have. Probably never get it done for that cheap again

Stocked it with bass, bream, catfish. All are thriving so far. I did it more for the dirt than the pond but i've enjoyed being able to take my little girl out there to catch bream whenever we want, she caught her first fish in that pond.

My neighbor has a well feeding his pond, and his pond overflows into mine, and mine overflows into nearby creek. So i've been fortunate that mine has stayed full through the drought thanks to my neighbor running his well.

Your place has sure come a long way. How long did it take for the pond to fill up?
