I know it’s a little early but I’ve put down prodamine in late Feb and I’ve had good results besides the dreaded doveweed.
I’ve heard of putting down spectile in May-ish. Which one should I apply, spectile flo, granular or total.
Trying to catch this early as I just put down some new sod.

Craw is gonna have your answer to this. I use specticle in the fall to prevent poa and rescue grass. I use prodiamine in the spring to prevent crab and goose grass. I do not have to deal with doveweed in DFW.
When I was in BR I used Celsius on doveweed as a post emergent. Specticle was not on the market when I was there. My opinion is that a March application of specticle is needed for doveweed. By may it has already germinated. I will say that flo is gonna give the best control.

I spot sprayed alot of doveweed spots a few times last year and it seems to be gone this year.

Yes ronk is correct. I’ve had a significant issue with Doveweed. Prodamine and Dimension pre-emergents are not effective against Doveweed. Specticle, according to Dr. Ron Strahan, weed turf extension specialist with LSU AgCenter, is the best pre-emergent herbicide for Doveweed.
I started using Specticle for the first time last spring. It is expensive. If I recall correctly from memory, $2.80 per 1000 sq ft per application, for Specticle Flo (cheaper than granular product). According to my Site One app, a 18 oz bottle, is about $262. About 3 years of application for 10,000 sq ft lawn (3 application per year).
May application is too late. Seeds geminate at soil temperature of around 70 F. So you need an application no later than mid-April. Followed by a second application late July/early August, if we have a wet summer (again Dr. Strahan recommendation to me).

Been using blindside on my zoysia for post emergent doveweed. Sometimes two applications but it’s gone in a couple weeks. May try specticle next year. The pre emergent I’m using definitely doesn’t work on dove weed.

I had a big dove weed problem last year. I’m set up to spray with a 10’ boom sprayer, but that specticle is likely gonna be a touch too expensive for me. I have just over an acre of turf.
