Infestation of Rats in attic

We have what sounds like a shite ton of rats living in the attic of our house. I've put down a couple of the sticky pads but that hasn't worked so far.
What is the best way to kill the rats without ending up with a horrible smell of dead animals in the walls?

I bought mouse traps and sticky pads. Put peanut butter on both.
I’ve killed 7 and I think that’s all of them

We ended up putting those black traps outside on two sides of our house. Got them from exterminator company

talked to a few neighbors this weekend and everyone is having the same issue this year. Sounds like a party up there. Someone is cutting the woods behind our houses to build a house. I guess hes pushing them into our attics. Sticky traps havent worked. I caught a couple on the old fashioned snap traps with cheese. Gonna try some of the live traps next and drown those f'ers.

Sure it's rats and not mice?

The black plastic victor traps are awesome with peanut butter. Also maybe borrow a trail camera to put up there.

Funny this topic came up. I’ve been trying to catch a mouse in my house for about a week. I was unfortunately having a problem with ants finding the peanut butter. So I bought this gel attractant from Lowes over the weekend. This morning I finally caught the bastard (hopefully the only one, but I’ll keep the rest of the traps out just in case.)

It may be mice, ive seen a few large rats outside of my house though so thats what makes me think its them. Im not sure if mice would be able to make the amount of noise theyre currently making upstairs.

Get a box of Just One Bite II and throw it all over your attic. They will magically disappear.

I just use live traps and check often.
Way more cleaner.
And more humane.
Bonus: you could relocate the mice/ rats to your "friends".

I had a farm house years ago and there were rat droppings all over the place whenever I went up to hunt and farm.
I didn’t much care because it was just a farm house. I got a few cats and let nature take it’s course
Well I needed a new roof so I hired a roofer.
The crew came out and got to work. They had to tear out the entire decking of the roof in parts.
I went up to inspect and the contractor said “come over here I got something to show you”
I went to the back yard and there were 4 dead rat snakes laid out. They were over 10 feet long and each one weighed over 15 lbs. when they pulled off the deck, they saw the gigantic snakes and killed 4 while others ran off.
if I hadn’t seen it myself, I would not have believed it.
Then he said, come see something else.
7 big garbage bags full of rat nests, rat droppings and dead rats.
The place was infested beyond anything I had ever seen!
I got an exterminator out there and bombed the place with some sort of gas and killed everything. I couldn’t go inside for over a week.
Exterminator said if you see one rat, you can be sure there are dozens more. They breed incredibly quick

My wife's cats take care of any mice or rats that are around the house. Did hear what sounded like a squirrel in the attic a few years ago so I tossed Bob Ross up there for a few hours when she wasn't home. Bob is a complete pyscho when it comes to torturing any and every thing before letting another cat finish it off. I don't know if he chased it away or killed it because I didn't hear any commotion and after letting him out no more noise after that.
I stumbled across this guy last week doing an inspection.
He had big hairy set on him so I assume he might have just died of old age.

I bought the same stuff yesterday because I couldn't catch one. Found him in a trap this morning, so I apparently it works like a charm.

Connect to Wi-Fi and it will alert when it gets a rat.
Holy shite. A rat trap that connects to wi-fi and alerts you when tripped. I don't know whether to be appalled or amazed by this invention. I like techie things, so I'm amazed by it.

if it's rats, you need to take off and nuke the site from orbit. it's the only way to be sure.
