Looking at getting some new AC and got a quote which included an Ion system. I am not familiar with the brand. Any experience, positive or negative?

No personal experience but I believe it is a Tempstar (been manufacturing HVACs for 40 years), whose parent company is United Technologies, which owns Carrier.

Honestly, there is little difference between basic builder grade HVACs, and it probably comes in a lower price point than comparable name brands you are familiar with (Carrier, Trane, Rheem). It will have the same warranty on parts as any other name brand HVAC. If you are good with the price and installing company, no reason not to consider it.

My AC just went out on Tuesday. Had three guys come out and quote new 5 ton unit and gas furnace (both are 18 years old) and figure to replace furnace even though it was still working.
Pricing Carrier, Bryant, Heil and Daikin units from 15 SEER to 19 SEER variable with inverter. Also as listed most expensive to least expensive.
We are down to the Carrier or Heil and can get the higher SEER Heil for the same price as lower SEER Carrier.

Are these variable speed? I know my 5 ton won't last forever. What kind of pricing are you getting.

Carrier 16 SEER is 2 speed variable and the 20+SEER is 5 speed variable.
Heil 16 SEER no variable and 19 SEER is 5 speed variable with inverter (so compressor from 0% to 100% output).
Bryant 16 SEER to 20 SEER comparable to HEIL.
Prices ranged for the above (Carrier - Bryant - Heil):
16 SEER - $18k - $15k - $14k
19 SEER - $22k - $21k - $17k
Carrier salesman was offering immediate discount of approx. $1000 to $1500
All salesman had a discount of approx $1500 to $2000 if paying upfront. For the three brands mentioned all offer 60 mos to 72 mos 0% financing, but no upfront discount if financing.
All prices I received included replacing the 18 year old furnace (if I opted for no furnace replacement, cost could be lowered by $4,000)
ADDED BONUS to any unit with an inverter - they can be run on a portable generator but you need to spec out the amperage and make sure your generator has the constant running amps to power it effectively. ( I initially budgeted for a whole home generator this year, but alas, life threw us this fun project to deal with!)
I was initially shocked with the current prices and that's is why I got so many quotes. I didn't list the Daikin brand which was considerably cheaper because I did not like the reviews I found and the unknown service limitations since it not a popular brand.
Good luck and post back with what you find.
