I know the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ford Bronco. Are there any others? After having snow on the ground for a week I had to use my truck's four wheel drive at my Brothers where it is still frozen.

Do you really need a locking 4WD or is AWD acceptable? AWD should be fine for snow.

Just about every SUV has an available AWD option.

I don't know. This was my first experience of using my truck's four wheel drive. The rear tires were spinning so I switched to four wheel drive.

If you want something that’ll last forever, find a 5th gen 4 Runner. Just be ready to pay.

Otherwise, a 2024/25 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 is solid and dealers are heavily discounting them right now. Just don’t get the 4xe or air suspension. My 2023 has been trouble free.

Trucks are notorious for traction issues in wet/snow because they are RWD but have a very light rear end.

Just about every mid-size of full size SUV will have an option for AWD (currently shopping SUVs for the wife). Most of them will be FWD biased, which is good for snow since it has more weight on the front wheels for traction. But with AWD, it’s (typically) a computer controlled differential that will distribute a proportion of power to the wheels that are not slipping.

Name the SUV you like and I’d be willing to bet it has an AWD option.

Any midsize SUV will carry that function if you pay the price for it. The new Kia Tellurides have great customer reviews and offer AWD in some packages, and it still costs less than a brand new Tahoe. There is an obsession with older Toyotas in here and unfortunately we don't live in a world where you can just go back in time and buy that particular vehicle. Personally, I would steer clear of Mopar vehicles, and probably most American SUVs. Buy what you like but I would suggest getting a higher trim package on whatever you pick if you want to do more than just go A to B. Regular maintenance and not driving like an arse hat on the road gives you a better chance at longevity.

CPO 4Runners with low miles exist, though even 30k miles is nothing on the 5th gen platform. Just don’t expect good rates for financing and be ready to pay $40k+. There is a reason they hold value so well.

Stellantis is a mess right now, but Jeep isn’t going anywhere. The 3.6 v6 + 8 speed is a pretty bulletproof combo. Can get it in the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler.

I had a Grand Cherokee before I traded it in for a 3/4 ton truck to use with my 34' travel trailer. Due to Uncle Arthur this year may be my last year of traveling in a RV. So I am early researching for my next vehicle. It has to be small enough for my wife to drive. She has not driven the truck yet in the two years I have had.

We went to get a Tahoe about two months ago and end up leave with a new traverse. Got to say it’s very nice room and the 3rd row comes in handy. We got the awd but they do have the Z71

Get an AWD vehicle. It doesn’t sound like you need 4x4.

I’ve got an AWD rig w/4x4. I use AWD with the snow function driving on snow.

I use my 4x4 when I’m launching my drift boat on gravel or mud bars and pulling my buddies 22’ aluminum boat out of the launch.

Didn’t know Nissan wised up and ditched the CVT for an 9 speed ZF. Instantly makes that an attractive option in the mid sized SUV segment.
