Mower Blade Sharpening Method

I have been using hand file to sharpen blades the last few yrs. Looking to use an angle grinder with flap disc to speed up the process. Angle grinder would only be used for this. Should I get the $10 Harbor Freight version? If not, recs? Also, what flap disc grit is recommended?
Thanks!
Thanks!

No. I’ve seen those not last a day. Spend $30 dollars or more and get you one that will last.

What is the best method? I know I need to do this more often and can get whatever is best. I'm moving to a house with about 1.5 acres to cut with some cypress roots so will be doing it fairly often.

A stationary sander is the best since it won’t heat the blade as fast as a grinder and soften the metal.

I use a Makita disc sander/grinder that painters use to prep houses. It uses various grit heavy duty discs and I usually use a 36 grit to clean up the edge and begin the bevel then finish it up with a hand file to hone the edge.
The more important thing is to keep the blade balanced and not remove more material from just one edge. They make little "blade balancer" gizmos that let you know if your blade is true once done. An out of balanced blade can put some vibration in the crankshaft.

I use a Makita angle grinder with a sanding disc on my riding mower blades. Push mower blades are cheap so I just buy a new one.
Try not to overheat, but I don't think lawn mower blades are hardened so you don't really need to worry about it too much. Proper balancing is important though.

Angle grinder and flap disk. Lowes has a great little 6-amp Porter Cable grinder that goes for $16 on sale. I have a $20 4-amp Harbor Freight grinder that I've beaten the shite out of for years and still works. I use an old 80 grit Gator brand disk and a light touch, work both sides a few seconds at a time and keep a bucket of water to cool the blade in.

I use 80 grit on a Milwaukee angle grinder. Replace the blade every two years

Take blade off, take to hardware store mower repair desk, have them sharpen it, put blade back on. Repeat when needed. $4.00 each time.

Thanks all for the info.
Re: bench grinder, that was my initial thought. However, with the curves of my mulching blades, my thought was an angle grinder gives me more control of adjusting the grind.

I've used a bench grinder for my blades for 30 years. MUCH more versatile for the home DIY shop. The lawnmower shops usually use a bench grinder as well. Take it slow, Too fast and too much heat and you'll see the metal discolor which softens it. The angle doesn't have to be perfect unless you are maintaining a golf green! Use a piece of string or a nail to determine "balance", once again, it doesn't have to be perfect, just not seriously out of balance. I'm using the same Gravely push mower for 25 years and replaced the blade only 3 times.

Yep. Get that stone disc. Tractor supply has it by the chainsaw stuff. Maybe like $5

Grinder works well.
Just don’t heat blade to much.
