Going to be updating the living room soon and painting the old brick fireplace is on the list of things to do. I've never painted brick or masonry before so in doing a bit of research, I've only found flat masonry paint. Do they not make a satin or semi-gloss masonry paint? I'd prefer the fireplace to not be flat and would prefer more of a satin finish if possible.

What are my options here?

We did this last year but used Lime Wash. It came out really good, but I would probably prefer a satin paint. I had never really painted squat and this was easy with no primer needed. We had a brass fireplace insert that we painted black these 2 things changed the whole look of our living room.

We painted ours several years ago and it has held up well. We went with something with a bit of sheen to it, I forget if it was Satin or Semigloss. My wife is the painter between us. This was before we had a sprayer too, so we rolled/brushed it on. I brushed into the grout, she rolled the face of the bricks, and then went back over the bricks with a brush to get it into all the little nooks and crannies. We had converted our old den into a master bath, and it was a brick wall the length of the room, with a small hearth sticking out at the bottom.

The color and look is very similar to this:

Did the same as op above...I think I applied kilz first...then used just regular satin paint.
Has held up long enough for me to have forgotten exactly what I did....

Yeah we rolled ours, was going to spray it and was worried about rolling/ brushing but was otherwise very easy. I can't remember what we did, its just a satin or semigloss white. It was very easy and turned out great.

I had a professional painter do mine and he just primed it with tinted primer and then used regular paint. No special brick paint was ever mentioned. It came out great.
