Spraying yard for mosquitos?

We’ve had an awful mosquito problem for years. Have tried all the repellant gadgets for the back porch, nothing works on our 1/2 acre lot. My wife keeps saying we need to pay a professional to come spray periodically. My assumption is that if the neighbors on each side of us don’t also spray then it’s a waste. Are my thoughts accurate? What about any DIY spray to hook on to the hose that you recommend?

You’re wrong. Have it sprayed. We haven’t seen a mosquito in 7 years since we started the spray. I’m certain most of my neighbors don’t spray.

Spray Bifen on EVERYTHING except flowering plants. Yard, shrubs, hose, trees, everything.

I used to have terrible mosquito problems. We couldn't be outside at sunset without getting swarmed. I bought a fogger and mix liquid talstar. No problems for weeks. We start seeing them again at 3 weeks and fog again after 4. It works and at the price pest control places charge you break even quick enough.

Add some Nygard (growth regulator) in with the talstar also.

I’ve been checking this thread as the relatively new house we live in has a terrible mosquito problem, even now when it’s cooler. I have to believe that the source is our neighbor’s backyard which is a junkyard on top of a swamp. They even have a sump pump that kicks on during heavy rain to drain it to the street. Our own yard isn’t very big but it does have plenty of vegetation.
I like the idea of the fogger but I’ve read Talstsr-P shouldn’t be used in it as it may clog it. The pros seem to recommend pump sprayer which is easy enough but would this be as effective as a fogger using a different chemical?

We used a mosquito infrared zapper that killed zillions. Then a squirrel cage blower at the end of the patio that kept them away without the zap light. Talstar helped very little.

If in Baton Rouge the city will spray your yard free I am told. Haven’t done it myself, but friends do. Not sure how long it lasts.
