Suggestions on Fig Varieties

I am looking to plant a fig tree and was leaning towards planting a LSU Purple or a Brown Turkey.
But when I went to Clegg's, I also saw a Little Miss Figgy, Celeste, and the Black Mission (thought BM's weren't good for growing here) varieties.
What has been your favorite tasting fig? Trying to make a decision and it's a challenge! I guess I can plant two but was planning on one fig and planting a Fuyu persimmon as well.

I have a Celeste fig tree in my back yard and it's been a good producer for the most part.
Two years ago it started to fade and considering it was a pretty big tree when I bought this house in 92, it had a long run.
Long story sort, it got some sort of disease in the main growth and started to decay, so I cut it all down and removed it. Like fig trees do, it sent up new shoots that have since grown into a healthy smaller version of the original, but at the rate it's growing, it won't take long to be as good as the original.
This year I only picked a couple hundred figs off of it, but lost almost that many to birds beating me to the fruit.
I've used them to make fig preserves, fig cakes, dried figs and for just plain eating.

I have 20+ year old LSU Purple and 3 year old Brown Turkey - 1/2 dozen other varieties in 30 gal containers (just playing around). Of the 5 fig variety options you listed, as far as taste, for me personally, I’d go with with the Celeste or Brown Turkey. My grandfather had a few old Celeste.
And given the option of 2 fig varieties, or 1 fig and 1 Fuyu persimmon, I’d go with latter. Oriental Permissions are aesthetic trees with good fruit, figs are not the prettiest fruit bearing shrubs.

Thanks for the tips.
I may have to buy more than I had planned the way this is going. So many interesting varieties!

BTW, I have a Little Miss Figgy cultivar you mentioned. Its a small plant compared to most fig varsities. You you can grow it in a container - 15 gal size or so so you don’t have to water it so often in the summer, or you can ground plant it in a small patio area. The figs aren’t any larger than a medium size blackberry.

An average Celeste fig is much better than the best of any other variety. A good Celeste fig is one of the best things you can eat.

What about LSU gold variety vs. Celeste. Love dogs and want a strong flavorful fig to use in beer in the future.

Thanks everyone. I got the Celeste!
