We have a ticks seemingly all over in our yard. East Tennessee is heavy with ticks and a lot of them are Lone Star Ticks, which you do NOT want latching onto you.

Internet is full of suggestions, curious if anyone has had success with one method more than others. I'd prefer to avoid something potentially cancer causing for kids or pets, but not sure that can be avoided.

My son found 3 on his body after he was playing in our yard all weekend. All Lone Stars.

I use Bioadvanced complete. Supposed to be safe for kids. Hasn't bothered my pets and I've used it for years.

We have our pest control guy put down some type of granules in the yard every spring and regular house treatments. The granules are supposed to slow release 3-4 mos.

Seems to work

Chemicals will only ever do so much, especially if you are surrounded by an environment that isn't controled. You need to make sure to reduce their habitat as much as possible - remove leaves and dead grass.

My whole family has a set of yard shoes and socks in the garage treated with permethrin. That’s a great protection, and few ticks will make it past the sock.

I keep a border between the yard and woods. Treat yard twice per year when the bees are low (after clover bloom).

Dogs take Bravetco.

How big of a yard? You can keep an acre or more drenched in permethrin or bifen fairly easily. I’m on 2/3 acre and can soak the entire property for $10 worth of chemicals in under an hour with a 15 gallon 12v pull-behind sprayer and aux wand. That includes laying it down heavy on/around the house and cleaning up everything. Do that every couple months and nothing is crawling into the yard. For smaller lots, a backpack sprayer would do that fairly easily.

Guinea Chickens if they're an option. My dad and I both have a place in NE Georgia that was CRAWLING with seed ticks...I don't know what kind they were but they were there by the gazillions. We almost gave up on building on those lots because of it until my uncle told us to put some Guinea chickens out. We did and they ate every damned tick on the two places....that was about 35 years ago and those ticks have not returned....not nearly as thick any way. Guinea chickens can't stand the thought of a living tick roaming the planet LOL....
