I'm renovating my bathroom and going back to a Tub/shower set up. I have been looking around for Tub/shower trim kits and originally wanted to go with one of the major manufacturers (kohler, moen, price phister, delta), mostly because of the perceived better quality and parts. My biggest concern is the valve roughin itself going bad and only being able to replace with that same brand without having to cut out tile to sweat in a new valve rough in.

But as i do my research, i'm seeing most of these companies don't appear to get that many good reviews lately and they certainly aren't cheap either for what you get. It also doesn't help my wife NEEDS to have Brushed gold, the most expensive finish available. The valve roughins also appear to get discontinued so even if I go the major brand route, I still run the risk of having a rough in discontinued and I'd need to cut the tile and change it anyway.

Therefore, I am buying a Glacier Bay shower/tub combo from home depot and I know it's not these bigger name brands but from what I can see, it's using a Danco cartridge which is sold regularly at Home Depot. The only downside here is the rough in is Glacier Bay as well so i'm sort of stuck to that brand.

Does anyone have prior experience with all of this and provide any insight? Does anyone have Glacier Bay shower faucets and have opinions on long term quality?

I don't. But I suggest when you buy them to go ahead and buy another cartridge. Just set it up in your towel closet because one day you will need it and you can't count on anyone having the products they do now.

That was already planned and on order. I had the exact same mindset as you.

Pretty crazy how their favorite is always the most expensive. Mine too.

I have nothing to add beyond that. Good luck.

You can thank social media and “influencers” for this. Drives me nuts.

Doing a master addition and reno of some parts soon and contractor asked my wife to put together a material board so he can more accurately quote the materials and fixtures. He got the bid back to us and was like all of the selections are beautiful and your wife has great taste but everything your wife picked out would be considered the highest quality and very high end. Wanted to run head first into the wall.

I replaced all GB fixtures from previous homeowners with brushed champagne bronze stuff. They all worked fine without issue for what I'd guess was over a decade but just looked dated af. I didn't have to mess with the valve rough-in thankfully (nor did I even consider that they possibly become obsolete).

I got decent deals on Delta Linden stuff on Wayfair FWIW and there are tons of other reasonably priced ones in that same finish from Delta if you haven't purchased yet. I had 4 baths to do so I definitely wanted a deal but it sounds like you're doing the master bath that your wife uses daily so you miiiight want to splurge a bit.

To be clear, you didn't mess with it but someone else did? Or you worked on it and just used the Delta valve roughin?

THis is the hall bath the kids will end up using but either way, I want it to look good and last. My wife gets my cheap arse to splurge more than I want sometimes so I'd like to have this one.

I did it (youtube helped me, lol). The valve was not included in boxes and though it was suggested to me at checkout, I didn't think I'd need it since I wasn't replacing anything due to problems and was not prepared to demo tile at this time. It fit on the existing valve perfectly fine once I got the crazy stuck-on GB one off.

I totally get it... I only got fun options on the master shower and went basic in the other ones.
