Need recommendations for a local company in Baton Rouge. I pulled burner assembly and used sandpaper on igniter and thermopile, blew out the pilot gas line. Still no spark showing. No status light. Honeywell gas valve.
Update: Burner assembly would have taken a week to come in. I was able to find the pilot assembly and swap that out on the burner. Put it back on and all lit up perfectly. Feels good to get the win for the DIY guy just trying to get by. Total cost $75 in parts and $90 diagnoses. The pro wanted $700.

Did you try manually lighting it? Just don't blow your hand off.

Can’t. Burner unit is attached to cover plate and have to disconnect gas to access.

If you pulled the burner assembly, you can install a new one. Just order a new burner assembly. I just did one of mine, same problem and it works perfect now.

try a new thermocouple?

It’s 12 years old and I know they will want sell me anew one. I was wondering if it may be the valve control. If I replace the assemble then it’s the valve then I’m out $150. Grrr. But I’ll go that route if I need just to get the experience.

So guy came out ($90) and said he needed to change burner assembly for $600! WTF! I pulled it so I know the time it takes. Burner online is $150 ish.

I thought about that too. I’m gonna pull the burner again I’m changing the whole thing. Thanks though, I had seen that video too.

quote:Look on youtube, those Honeywell control panels have a tendency to go bad. I had one go out on me this spring, easy to replace. Can get them second hand online, plumbers apparently pull these a lot when they replace a tank.
it may be the valve control

I told you to change the burner...

I couldn’t light mine and did get my plumber out. He called tech support to just to have them walk through a couple of things looking at mV signals. Ended up changing gas valve/controller unit if I recall correctly. That did the trick.

Doing it tomorrow. I had already put it back on and my wife called the guy. I’m going to pull it again in the morning and get the part ordered. In the mean time I’m changing out the pilot assembly on the burner bc they have that in stock tomorrow. I appreciate all who commented. I will update.

Whatever you do, drain the damn tank if you switch out the gas valve. Made that mistake trying to be cute and do it like a professional, which I'm not.
Only took a week for the new gas valve to dry out and finally work. ha but it worked. Drain the damn tank.
Oh and dont blow up
