I have a few live oaks about two years old and while watering them this evening I noticed these bushy looking flowery things on one of them. What the hell is this? Never seen it before in my life.

Another less clear pic but still visible

Leafy oak gall made by the leafy oak gall wasp. It won't harm the tree, just the leaf it is on to some extent.

Being that they are young trees, if they show up in large numbers you can just pinch them off of the leaf, trying to save be leaf, they're attached to. There's probably another, even smaller parasitic wasp that targets those specific galls. Oaks are cool because they attract everything, and that's the point.

Googling the gall wasp sure does seem to confirm this. Thanks, baw! When I saw them I thought “no way they’re making acorns already” then took a closer look and was so confused.
