What type of lawn pre emergent do you use?

It’s getting to be the time of year to put it out. So you use a spray or granulated? Plan to go to Cleggs and see what they recommend but wanted to see if anyone has a go to brand they like

Granular Dimension (dithiopyr) for me. Cleggs sells the Fertilome brand.

Does it not rate well?

Sure all the Fertilome products are good, including their Dimension pre-emerge product. What I like about Dimension is that it also has some post-emergent control of very young crabgrass giving it a slightly broader window of application but that only applies to the spring application.
I do now use the Lesco brand of Dimension (sold at SiteOne Landscaping Supply) only because you get 50 lbs of product compared to 30 lbs of Fertilome product for about the same price, but the active ingredient dithiopyr is the same in the same concentration.

I use the sunniland brand sold at Lowe’s.
Although the BR stores did not have any, but I got some in MS last weekend when I went over there.

Yep, I’ve never seen any brand of the dithiopyr pre-emergent carried at Lowe’s or HD in BR, just the independent retail plant nurseries, Site One, and some hardware stores.

If I put prodiamine down now ...do I need to do a second application at a later date?

Yeah 2 applications a year. I think I usually wait until October but someone else on here can confirm when

I was just thinking the same thing. Apply now or wait until first week in October. Can someone confirm when we should apply pre-emergent?

Last week of September thru first week of October is optimal for winter weeds.
In the spring, I think its the last week of February for summer weeds.

I don't use any and haven't used any on my yard.
For cool season grasses, it seems to prevent the yards from really thickening up and filling in. Once the grass does that, it keeps weeds out on its own.

Get some Prodiamine
This bottle will last you forever.
If you would rather use a granular, just grab some Lesco or Sunniland 0-0-7 from Lowes or HD.

Does any of that take care of dollar weed?
Posted on 9/9/19 at 1:43 pm to Clint Torres
I use Amaze and put it down twice a year. I was at Lowe’s and one of nursery suppliers helped me pick out one and it really works well. About time to put it in flower beds now.

I don't believe you'll find pre-emergents labeled for dollarweed. You could grab an all in one like Spectracide Weed Stop which will kill existing weeds including dollarweed and also has a pre-emergent for crabgrass control.

Granular Scott's Halts. Great for winter weeds but meh on the warm season weeds. In my experience.
