What’s the best fridge manufacturer these days?

I like a few of the Samsungs I looked at but haven’t done my research on them yet. LG seems to dominate the appliance and home stores but I refuse to give them business after they fricked me out of $800 on a warranty claim.

General consensus is Samsung is trash. I have a Whirlpool now. I had a Kenmore that shite the bed after 2 years. Just find one with the least amount of shite to break on it. And get the warranty.

Allow me: don't buy a Samsung fridge.
I like my Whirpool, even though barely 2 years old I had to replace an ice maker part. Cost about $60 and works like normal. It's the side by side style and I'm probably one of the few that prefers that in here. I just don't like the design of French food fridges because of how the freezer storage is done. Depending on your budget, Whirpool/LG might be the way to go. KitchenAid is also good, a little bit more than your standard price range.
Costco/Sam's Club will generally have the best prices on appliances like these without you needing to feel compelled to buy the full kitchen appliance package.

I had a Kenmore that lasted 5-7 years (I can't recall exactly). As you may know, Kenmore doesn't make anything, they simply rebrand. It was an LG and it was great while it lasted but no one wants to work on LGs. I ended up getting a GE and it's been rock solid.
From what I've seen on Consumer Reports if you want to avoid LG (good while they last, too expensive to fix if you can find someone to work on it, I will never own another one), GE, Whirlpool, Amana Frigidaire are your best bet depending on what style fridge.

We have a LG fridge and it's been trash. It's next on the list to replace so I'm interested in this thread as well. We were leaning Kitchen Aid (fancier Whirlpool). I'm not sure if they are any better than Whirlpools themselves.

When I bought my first house in 2007 got a Kenmore side-by-side. It died right after the flood. Only fridge we could find was a Samsung floor model. That POS lasted 3-4 years. The freezer kept freezing over and shutting down. Sold it to someone for whatever I could get for it. We now have a whirlpool.
Only issue I have had is the ice maker quits working. Found a mention online that the ice maker will quit if the freezer is not less than -10. I put the freezer in it's coldest setting and the ice maker has been fine.
Kenmore/GE/Whirlpool/Amana are all the same. Look at the interiors and they are all basically identical.

I like Whirlpool. In-laws bought an LG after the flood. They replaced it last month after the fourth breakage.

I gave up on the LG ice maker. I've replaced it twice in the 10 years we've had and still haven't had a functional one in 5 years

I bought a Samsung Thanksgiving of 2021 against the advice of this board and have had zero issues. Love the features and am glad I decided to go against the grain.
I don't recall exactly the research performed back before I bought it, but I did extensive research and even paid for a week long consumer reports subscription just for the Samsung fridge reviews. If I recall correctly, Samsung was solidly middle of the pack as far as reliability/quality - not the best, but far from worst.
I figured their research was more trustworthy than the anecdotal (for the most part) stories you'll hear here and it seems I have been correct, at least thus far.
I definitely bought the extended warranty, however. Was good piece of mind/insurance.

My Samsung is 12 years old, and has run flawlessly. Would I buy another? Probably not. Most likely, I own a fluke.

Would stick to whirlpool and it's brands.
There are two types of Samsung owners you will run into. Those that never repair their fridge and those that tried. Just know if you buy one, parts are harder to come by and nobody wants to work on them for a reason. They generally don't fix stuff over time, so prepare for whatever broke to break continuously for life.

I had a KitchenAid side-by-side. The ice maker was garbage, because the ice maker was located on the door, and "rested" in the refrigerated part, which is not a good place for it, as it competes with the warmer temperatures and causes it to freeze up.
I had to have the ice maker motor/parts replaced 3 times in 4 years. The LED lights on the inside of the refrigerator also went out. I ended up giving the refrigerator to my sister and 6 months later, it went completely out. The repair person said it was not worth the cost to fix it.
I bought a Fisher Paykel refrigerator. It's a little smaller, but it's been solid. The ice maker is located in the freezer and while I have to use a scoop to get ice out, it works.

Whirlpool and their related brands like Maytag, etc.
A couple years ago an indepedent home appliance service tech that was working on my then Samsung under warranty said Wirlpool etc for all major home appliances EXCEPT Bosch for dishwashers.
He said that Samsung and LG account for 2/3 of their service business.

We bought a Samsung in ‘21 as well. So far no issues. My parents have one that’s over 10 years old with no issues. Both are French door style with the freezer on the bottom.
My only gripe for ours is the ice maker is in the refrigerated part so the ice will freeze up if we don’t use it daily. I dump a cup or two daily just so it doesn’t make a big block of ice in there.

We bought one of the big ones they sell. 31 cuf or something. It sucked in our last house the first 4 years we had it. So when we finally got our new house done, I moved it to the carport. We have a GE inside now and its OK but not great.
I loved the LG for the most part. It just kept freezing up and the ice maker is total shite

They're all made in the same factories...all aren't very good anymore

Kenmore makes nothing. If asked, they will tell you who makes the appliance. Stay away from TV brands. LG and Samsung.
I rather Whirlpool. If in BTR, I go to Stanton’s Appliance, Kathy handles my accounts. Her opinion on appliances has always helped in my choices.

The only thing I’ll ever buy made by Samsung is their tvs. I bought a whirlpool refrigerator to replace a not so old frigidaire. Very happy with whirlpool so far.

LG must have gone down hill. Remodeled 2009 with LG range, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge. No major issues except the microwave replaced about one year ago because some buttons went out on the keypad, and absolutely nothing ever done to the fridge maintenance wise and still running to this day. Only time it’s been turned off since then was during power outages. About to build a new house and that’s terrible to hear
