Just wondering. Haven't heard much other than the LSU WR that was buried on the depth chart that entered (can't blame him). Any promising incoming portal transfers that LSU is talking to?

Not at the moment. Kelly says he is happy with roster right now.

Any reason we're ignoring Cooley and Spears?

No news is good news I guess. I'm sure they're evaluating whomever is in the portal to see if they should try to add them.

Exactly… 4 guys we believe in with Cooley, Gilbert, Toviano, Spears. Add in that Delaney can also play safety.

Supposedly, Gilbert played most of all of the year with a bum shoulder and Toviano could make a big leap, as well as Spears you would think.

Definitely reason to feel better than we have in a while to enter the season.

There aren't any difference makers in the portal at the moment... Just a bunch guys that would provide better depth to what we have, but that's about it.

I am so damn glad that Kelly is thinking like im thinking. You have youngish talented guys who just need to get a chance on the field. You have a veteran who was fairly decent at TAMU, playing last year injured all year long. You have a transfer in Cooley who could give you help at nickel. Depending on how your corners turn out Delane could legit start at corner or safety, he's that good and versatile.

Kelly, like me, doesn't want to keep stacking transfers on top pushing off development and experience of guys he's recruited. You have multiple safety prospects with experience plus a blend between first time starters with years in the system and fresh faces. There are no Caleb Downs' in the portal. At this point you'd be reaching for guys that may or may not be as good as what you already have.

Same with DT. Im seeing all the local media people talking DT? I don't care what they've seen at practice or heard around. LSU has two legit options at Nose with one being a 5th year player. They also have a huge talented 5 star sophomore who is legit a starter with a backup in Breaux who played great in relief as a freshman. And again, there are no star DTs in the portal. Who left in the portal could beat out who we have?

Safety from ULM, Wydett Williams, hit the portal yesterday.. He is 6'2" 205 and had over 100 tackles and 3 interception last season.

Agree that it should be the thinking whether it is or not.

Agree fundamentally. That said, you can never have enough quality DL. And David Stone could push any of those guys, as an example of a kid in the portal that could compete. Perfect world. Factor in the potential for him being a headcase and having a huge price tag, maybe we shouldn't pursue but he could compete.
Also doesnt imply that Kelly isn't happy with the guys we have. He very well could be. However, he should tread carefully resting on his laurels around these parts. His grace period is up. Results, not excuses, are expected.

David Stone

He wouldn’t have been eligible to play for an SEC school if he transferred in conference. He removed his name from the portal and is staying at Oklahoma.

I think LSU would be interested in adding a safety or DL if the price is right, but it sounds lie they expect the asking prices to be above market value.

To be fair, I didn’t really hear much practice reports on Cooley good or bad - not sure what to make of that
