Spend now on Barrow or Williams and lose Stewart cause we can't match a team.
That's not coming from the same pot.

The money spent in the portal will be from the money they gathered trying to keep Smith, Wingo, and BTJ. At this point guys are looking at offers too. I know people are pissed right now, but if the money is the same, and you got one year left as a legal aged young man, Miami seems like a way better place than Baton Rouge.

LSU can sell Bo Davis and his multiple elite DTs over the years including recently Byron Murphy (1st round) and T'Vondre Sweat (2nd Round). LSU can also sell Maason Smith (2nd round), transfer Jordan Jefferson (4th round), and transfer Mekhi Wingo as 3 extremely recent success stories. That's way better than many of the teams offering these guys. Overall Bo Davis and LSU have a combined 4 DL draft picks in this one draft.

Now, do they care about the NFL and being developed by a DL guru, or do they care about fast money and fun in Miami or in Williams' case, just stay home in Texas. We'll see soon enough.

If some of these guys develop into NFL players, that's fine. If they don't, that's fine, too. It's their future, and it's up to them.

But I don't personally care about their NFL future; I care about whether they can help LSU win in 2024. Wingo was tremendously important for the 2022 team, played almost every defensive snap, yet doesn't appear to be coveted by the NFL.

If a guy can help LSU win in 2024, you pay him. I doubt the money will come out of the pockets of anyone on this board.

If you want to win BIG you have to pay. That's just the Wild Wild West of college sports.

I went and looked at the 247 Transfer Portal site. I was pretty surprised that none of the names we've been pursuing rank as high as a score of 90. There were so many DL's approaching 300 lbs. in the Portal ranked much higher who committed long ago.

Throwing a bunch of money at a person scoring as an 87 doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Johnny Bowens from Oregon might be the exception as a 93, presently. Derrick Harmon is a 0.9100, Damonic Williams is a 0.9100 where CJ West is an 0.8900 and Simeon Barrow is a 0.8700. I trust our coaches to be certain of vetting the proper candidates and am not a star gazer.

Although he did an interview with Shannon Sharpe recently and said all of that was false and was started by Dan Mullen and his wife,

Let’s say it were true and he did get the rumored 100-150k.

There’s no one in the portal as good as cam and most of the guys in it will never play in the nfl let alone be mvp.

Are these guys that’s 4/5 year sr’s that’ll never play in the nfl worth 500-800k?

frick outta here

I get your point but it's a whole new world. Before OP deleted it he made the point that 1 year rentals aren't worth it to pay. In certain contexts, yes it is worth it like in the case of Cam.

With or without DT's, I don't feel this is a championship team, the defense has too much ground to make up, not saying it won't be improved , and I don't see the offense being quite as explosive as last year, we lost 3 first rounder's.,

And before last season, people thought Brian Thomas Jr was a slightly above average player & Jayden needed to be benched for Nuss. I'm not worried about the offense.

I see this as a pretty big foretelling of the staff's true expectations on the coming season. Actions speak louder than coachspeak.

Nobody I’ve noticed mentioned what extremely over paying for a 1 year rental does to the rest of our team. If you were any player that has been here for 2 or 3 years and much higher rated making 1/2 or less how would that effect moral….
Just wondering.
