Based on calls from the staff, scouts, etc
He did mention he thinks Ware is 50/50 and given he’s a LHP I think that’s a big deal to get him

That sucks
I didn’t expect that from Ryan.
This roster is being purged of Louisiana talent.
I know it’s not on purpose, but it really sucks.

I don't remember the exact quote but he made it sound like it was not just based on feelings but also talking to people who are in the know this morning and that he "dug into it a little bit"

If Ryan isn't making it to campus, I really hope we're trying to keep Kucherak.

Ryan is obviously the surprise but if the draft plays out this exact way I think it’s a net win (Ware would hurt)
You would get 30 homers back at first
7 top 120 HS kids to campus
Pitchers: Rizy, Evans
INF: Fountain, Hogg, Costello
OF: Curiel
C - Arrambide

Are you referring to Jones here?
Can’t help but be excited if we ended up keeping Jones, Stanfield, Bras. Throw in Ulloa/Herring and cbb will be fricked yet again

Yeah Jones. He wasn’t in his predicted draft losses. Herring was though and I expect Ulloa to be gone

I feel like they’re all just repeating that same line that’s from 4 weeks ago. Don’t do this to yourself, his number isn’t that high. I don’t know what it is, but it’s not $3Mil, and he should be able to fetch $3Mil even if it was.
It’s 3.5. That’s coming straight from him 2-3 weeks ago. Obviously it could change, but that’s where he was at.

Which would be easy to get at 36.

100%. I’m not expecting him here

I know Cleveland has the biggest pool this year, so they’re obviously one of those teams we want to see get high balled by a highschool recruit early. Just depends on where teams save by taking college guys at a discount and if Schmidt is willing to walk off his number to skip playing here. Hopes are low, but would be insane to have that type of arm on campus.
Posted on 7/12/24 at 2:48 pm to Tigah14
Agreed. Everything connected to him in mocks seem like the Dodgers or Cleveland taking him. Knowing Cleveland is taking a bat at 1 overall it is pretty easy to assume they will take a top arm at 36.

They pick 1 overall and will probably save close to a million there. And they're a very good landing spot for a pitcher. They have a good development track record.
From both a money and opportunity standpoint, it's going to be a great opportunity for Schmidt if they take him.

Cleveland is already known to be picking a guy who will come off the 10+mil signing bonus for 1 overall. That is why none of the mocks have Condon or Cags at 1. They both apparently have told teams they aren't interested in taking a cut.
Posted on 7/12/24 at 2:53 pm to BayTiger13
It also helps Cleveland that they love drafting hit tool middle infielders and the next two or three teams don't. They're playing Bazzana and Weatherholt against each other for who will take the lower offer knowing that who ever they don't take won't go til like 4th or 5th.
So the difference between pick 1 and pick 4 or 5, from a bonus standpoint, is what they're looking at as a potential haircut.

Yeah, makes Cleveland a really good landing spot for him. LSU fan in me says frick the Guardians and come start weekends here for a couple years, but it’s looking likely he gets offered whatever his number is, gotta respect that.

It’s hilarious how different the MLB draft is to the other major sports. More fun to follow
Posted on 7/12/24 at 3:01 pm to ProjectP2294
Exactly. Cleveland looking to save over 1 mil on that 1 overall pick.
Like you said earlier, their history in pitcher development is a very easy sell to Schmidt also.

There is so much more that goes into it, and the rules and strategies have changed so significantly in the past five years. As someone that's been following it closely for a couple decades, to see people speak so definitively about it on the rant makes me just leave that board and retreat back to the safety of this thread.
