How does a guy with that physical make up and 2 D1 brothers get ranked so low?

I know he enrolled super late, but was he just a guy people didn’t think would qualify?

personally I think physically he is just a late bloomer too and he will keep on getting taller also. He has yet to hit his ceiling physically.

He was a late bloomer. Didn't really grow into his body or really show a ton of ceiling until he got to college. You could kinda see it during his senior year in HS but he had a ways to go. Just seemed to click for him all at once when he hit college and then began to grow into his body, IMO.

I'm not surprised by his 40 time tbh. I've been saying he's a 4.4 guy. His brothers were athletic. His older brother is an underrated athlete who was like 6'4-6'5 and ran a solid 4.5. He gets a lot of hate but I think if he started his career at LSU at WR he would've been where his little brother is now. He just wasn't a QB and by the time he got to the NFL nobody was willing to sit around to develop him in another position.

There were a lot of factors.

Grade risks were a thing but it was overblown, he wasn't going to have that many problems qualifying as he only needed 1 extra class going into his senior season to qualify.

Most of the problems came from his size, he was maybe 180 pounds wet, but right around the spring to the summero of his senior year, he gained about an additional 10 pounds and packed on some healthy weight to his frame.
It really helped him going into his freshman year at LSU.

Another thing is that a lot of schools didn't offer him because everyone knew he was an LSU lock. Coach O was giving him a scholarship no matter what, it would have taken something drastic for him not to end up at LSU.

Despite the late drama of him being added to the class, he was going to be on campus one way or another. Even if it might have been a semester or 2 later.

I know some of the local media guys took that into account when they ranked him, but his senior film did turn some heads. It was impressive and one of the big reasons why he was even given 3 stars by 247. Sonny and Shea at 247 in particular took notice of him and vouched for at least a ranking.

Though obviously nobody predicted him to be where he is at today.

Yes, but also other schools probably figured if he did qualify he'd go to LSU so they never pressed

Grades and a little scrawny. Never regarded for his speed which shows he’s physically matured a lot

No, end thread. He was barely a 3 star and all the people saying grade risk are just covering their rear ends. Grades were a concern, but obviously not so much a problem that they cost him eligibility. I've seen 5 star guys not qualify due to grades.

Wrong. Watch this HS highlight and tell me this isn't 4-star talent. Dude played at Destrehan, too. Good competition. The recruiting services missed. Plain and simple, no excuse for it.

He was bigger than OBJ. Size wasn't it.

That's not a reason, either.

The recruiting services may have missed but so did every college outside of LSU. He wasn’t even recruited hard by some smaller SEC schools or mid majors. It’s not like he didn’t play at a school scouts don’t visit. Destrehan always has schools watching. Awesome story and glad LSU offered him.

There was an interview with his HS coach that was posted on this board recently.

You should probably read it.

Wow, Justin was the bomb in HS. His rating was a complete miss by the “experts”. He’s about to get paid, so good for Justin Jefferson!!!
Love the pictures of him and Jeaux at the combine. What great team mates.

Missed his junior year because of an injury and didn’t qualify until school almost started. Before he got hurt as a junior he was getting a lot of interest. Miami was all over him.

Rail thin - 170 when he showed up
I thought no way he sees the field
Not everyone is fully developed that early in their career

This is not an original thread. The subject has been worn out.

But to refresh:
"“Two things,” Robicheaux said. “One. He needed one more class to be eligible. Two. Everybody that came around the school thought he was going to LSU.”"

ONCE AGAIN - The article where 24/7 tries to cover their arse for the horrible ranking and lack of evaluation

The link above came from this thread.

He didn’t have that physical make up coming out of high school. He was nowhere near as athletic as his brothers and was very skinny.

I wish this Rantard myth about every damn player would end.

"Production wasn’t an issue either. Jefferson posted 44 catches for 956 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior."

I don't care if he is 4'3" and 37 pounds. If he puts up numbers like that at Destrehan he is a good football player.

I watched his senior season film, and he looked to me like a high four-star. As he made a ton of contested catches like he did at LSU. In addition, his time in the 40 was listed at 4.88, which obviously wasn't correct. As you could look at his film and see that he was much faster than that.

Nonetheless, he was ranked super low by the recruiting services. Which is a testament to the fact that stars aren't always a good indicator of how good or bad a particular player is. As all of the recruiting services missed big time on his evaluation.

Meanwhile, the reason he ended up signing so late was he had a problem with an English class. Nonetheless, it's a good thing Ed O had faith in him. As he turned out to be the best Jefferson brother of all.
