Abram also suffered from a congenital back condition. I don't think he quit, he just didn't have the mental toughness to overcome.

Abram Booty is one of my all time favorite tigers, great player and great man. The Herb Tyler to Abram combo was a thing of beauty.
Thx for sharing the link.

I was told that Saban wrote Josh's name on the chalkboard/ dry erase board and pointed to it and said this is why we lost the game. The audible was a colossal mistake that cost them the UAB game but it seems a bit ridiculous to single J. Booty out and berate him in front of the entire team. The game should have never been that close.

Abram is a very nice guy and he's good to his family. I can't blame him for walking out. He'll always be a Tiger in my opinion.

Uh, No, he QUIT. Read the above posts about how he quit in the lockeroom after the UAB game. This is a fact. Abram left LSU and played briefly at Valdosta St.

Abram Booty was a great possession receiver until he got hurt. Wasn't super fast, but ran great routes and caught everything. Was a Ricky Proehl/Wes Welker type. He was never quite the same after several injuries and was screwed over by DiNardo when he came back from the first injury. Remember, DiNardo put Jerel Myers into Booty's flanker spot and when Booty returned, he moved him over to wide receiver, which meant he had to learn new routes and blocking schemes. DiNardo had stated earlier in the year that no starter would ever lose their position because of injury. Booty was never the same player and then got into more trouble with Saban after the Josh Booty call out.....

Because Abram wasen't mentally tough and he thought he had to stand up and defend his brother. After the UAB game in 2000 Saban addressed the team in the locker room and cussed out Josh Booty and said that LSU lost the game because of his Mother F****** you know what, and right after that Abram stood up and said coach I guess your to tough for me as well because no coach should talk to his players that way or my brother, I'm outta here. Thus ended the Sr year for Abram. He was actually hurt for the UAB game and he wasen't dressed out but was in street clothes. He had a quad strain issue early in that year.

sorry, i must call B.S. on that one. that's not what nick said to the team after the game. what he did say was that there's only one way we can make ourselves feel better after this loss, and that's if we go out and beat Tennessee next week. and we all know what happen next week.

Had good hands, but never ran after the catch (would always fall down to avoid contact).

He got that rep the year that he was playing with a back injury. He had back surgery after that season. Take it from a person who has had back surgery, I don't understand how he could play with a back injury that serious.

Let's not go overboard. I have fond memories of both of those guys playing because I was a student at the time, but the passing game back then never approached what I would call beauty, at least not consistently. Rohan to Josh Reed, different story.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Abram's offensive coordinator and head coach didn't have the intelligence to use Josh Reed as a WR. They were using Craig Nall and a walk on quarterback as WR's with a future Belitnikoff winner sitting on the bench.

Beautiful, delicious apples and ugly, yet sometimes pretty good oranges. I think it's a perfectly valid comparison. One passing/recieving combo was a thing of beauty and one was ok.

That is not a fact. he didn't quit in the lockeroom after the UAB game and saban didn't throw josh under the bus in front of the whole team. those are both rumors that are not true and certainly are not fact. abraham did quit later in the season after battling some injuries and not seeing eye to eye with nick and jimbo.

if by proehl/welker type you mean white, yeah, then he was the same type, but that is about all those three have in common....about all welker and proehl have in common with each other too.

a. booty was a decent college football player who got a fair amount of PT cause we were pretty weak at WR at the time. he really wasn't exceptional in any specific area.

Yeah, he was a Don Hutson/Keith Poole/Steve Largent/Don Beebe type.

agree...the only thing he had in commom with proehl and welker is skin color. booty was a possession receiver with above average hands and not good speed. welker is a playmaker with good speed and is very shifty...becomes a huge threat after the catch.

If Josh himself didn't feel strongly enough about the reaming he got from Saban that night, then I am sure it didn't merit Abram quitting the team for that reason.

The reality is that during Abram's time at LSU, he was regarded as a soft receiver who was afraid to take a hit, by most of our fan base. At the time we were relieved to have a coach who was not afraid to ruffle feathers and change the lazy locker room culture, which had been allowed to fester because of the ineptitude of the previous coaching staff.

It is amazing the amount of revisionist hacks who post on this board. I am sure in January of 2002 and 2004 all of you were really lamenting the supposed poor treatment Abram Booty received from Nick Saban.

Good video. Never seen it before. Why all the talk about why he quit playing? Too long ago to talk about it now. I talked to him a couple months ago, he's doing well and working for Primerica here in Shreveport.

You are 100% correct. The Saban hatred on this board clouds peoples judgement and always will.

And I'm glad someone called bullshite on that story because it is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard and sounds like an anti-Saban myth. I can't believe the Saban hatred has clouded so many peoples' judgement so much that this kind of rumor is even considered.

I don't know the details of Abrahm leaving but it was during/after Saban's first year and it also happened to be his brother's last year. This is probably no coincidence. If indeed he was hurt all year he probably could have gotten another year of eligibility. I'll bet he wishes he did since we won the SEC the next year. Having said all that, The Florida game in '97 is definately his bellcow game. I liked him as a player and wish him the best.

I just watched the video. You all are right, he caught everything with his body.

Abram did in fact get another year of eligibility and finished his career at Division 1-AA Valdosta State. I am sorry that he was unable to see the direction that the program was heading, or at least was unable to overcome whatever issues he had with the new coaching staff, if that in fact was the reason he left.

In doing so he decided to forego two exciting bowl wins and an SEC title that the rest of his recruiting class got to experience. I hope he feels like it was an informed decision, and does not regret it.

The best is the one about the supposed team mutiny that was set to occur after five years of virtually no attrition under Saban.
