Not totally surprising, in modern college athletics it’s gotta be hell to be a baseball coach at a small D1 program like UNO. Not to mention the school’s declining enrollment and budget problems.

I get it. Just doing it only a month before the season sounds like there may be more to the story.

Praying it's not a health issue for him or a family member.

They have less than 5500 students and the campus in completely land-locked.

I'd love to see them merge into Nicholls State. That campus has room to grow. You would have a university more on par with SELU and NSU (demons) just an hour outside the city. Now it seems like its slowly dying.

UNO is broke as a joke. They announced they were trying to cut the athletic dept. budget by 25% in the summer then the AD left a few weeks later. Wouldn't be stunned if they actually go through with dropping down soon.

if Nicholls expands into all of the open and available space around it, it would end up maxing out at right around the size UNO currently is.

His salary at UNO was $80k/year. Pay that man $100k and find a position for him on the staff

They hired the pitching coach, Dax Norris, who was the catcher for the 1997 Alabama runner up team and currently lives in Slidell. Great guy

Assume he took the job to hopefully eventually get a big job. That obviously never happened. I damn sure wouldn't do that job for that little money for as long as he did

Dean is stepping away from the Privateers to pursue an opportunity outside of baseball.

This seems odd. Maybe taking a year off and then going somewhere else?

I bet he got an offer to do something outside of baseball for more money with writing on the wall that UNO athletics is sinking.

No doubt he expected to move up the ladder but it never happened.
