Thought some of you would find these interesting. The SEC splits the payout with each SEC school - even the ones not in a bowl game.

A good article from Forbes: How the moola is shared
quote:
The SEC allows the school participating in the semifinals to keep $2,050,000, with an additional $2,150,000 if the team makes it to the championship game. The remainder of the [payout] is divided 15 ways, one share for each member institution and one share for the conference.
The SEC reimburses for bowl expenses as follows: one-way mileage reimbursement of $250 per mile up to the first 1,000 miles and $375 per mile for all miles over 1,000.
quote:
No additional monies are awarded by the College Football Playoff for participation in the national championship game, although the SEC does award a larger share of the $6 million payout to a participating team that makes it to the title game. The Tigers would walk away with $4.2 million of the $6 million payout if LSU plays in the title game, plus its share of the conference’s overall bowl distribution to members.

Weird the SEC has that about the championship game. I always thought college football tried to stay away from incentivizing individual teams with money for winning games. When I was younger I used to think you played the bowl games and the winner got all the $

Yeesh...why go to this one? There's no way that covers travel for everyone involved with the team (players, coaches, trainers, pep squads, etc.).

The Independence Bowl has been around for 43 years while some bowls have come and gone. I saw my first LSU game there and have watched teams that went on a few years later and won the national championship. National championship coaches - Jimmy Johnson, Danny Ford, and Nick Saban to name a few. Great players go to the NFL - to many to list. This year Miami plays there might be the only chance I ever get to see Miami play. It might not be the biggest of best bowl but it serves North La. and East Texas with college football that a lot of fans would never see.

ULL's bow; revenue went up a lot this year. From the Cure Bowl at 573K to 1.5 million for Lending Tree...
Like mentioned before... some of these bowls ,like the one in Tucson, have to be a loss for schools to play in.

These are the Sunbelt tie in bowls. By losing to App State, the Cajuns actually ended up in a bowl with a higher payout. That seems a bit odd but I guess The New Orleans bowl doesn’t have the sponsorship money?
Good list, interesting info.

How much is Ole Miss adding to the SEC pot? Oh, not a dime. Conference's welfare child once more...

People like to laugh at the independence bowl, but it’s one of the longest running games. Never been a top tier game, but has made good decisions to keep the game going (there were some years where it was close). Plus, the payout has generally been higher than similar games.

Excellent post. Hopefully, you gave some of these young ranters something to think about.

Is this a valid reason to root for other SEC teams to win bowl games?
I don't universally pull for other SEC teams, but maybe I should.
Thoughts?
(And yes, I know, me pulling for one team over another does not affect the game at all. But it is more enjoyable to watch a game when you pick a side.)

Holy fricking shite

If LSU played in the Hawaii Bowl, their travel budget would be $1,370,000

That would not have been one of my first answers if you asked me which non-CFP bowls had the biggest payouts.
