I agree, the prospects don't look great for this one.

Given our recent history with opening games there's not a lot of motivation for this one.

That being said, this is an on campus game in a beautiful setting, so it may be a better trip the LA or Vegas.

We’re going… thinking about renting a cabin around highlands North Carolina only about an hour away. Atlanta is only 2 hours away as well, likely cheaper to fly there and rent a car but too much crap to spend money on now with Christmas to worry about that now

Yeah - if attending - will fly into ATL and make the drive

I just checked, the only direct flights leave Friday and come back Sunday - and they’re $877 per person. That’s ridiculous

I don’t mind paying a lot for a good flight somewhere, but don’t think I’ll book those.

I live in Greenville, South Carolina, so I am really looking forward to this game. Hopefully it won’t be too damn hot. If anyone needs any tips about the area, just let me know!

I'll pass. Until LSU moved the marquee games from week one, I won't be making an attempt to make any of them.

Make the marquee games week 2.

Depending on the time, with Atlanta traffic it could take you at least 3 hours from ATL to Clemson. Plus the gong show that is getting around ATL and into your rental car.

Clemson is an hour (possibly less) from GSP, which is a country club compared to ATL. Flew out of GSP yesterday.

Unless ticket prices were way different I’d do GSP. But sounds like that’s MSY direct and not BTR. The connection or drive to MSY could sway me back to ATL as long as not rush hourS.

(Qualifications: We live 35 miles from Climp and travel to BR more than I’d like.)

Yeah if you aren't flying to GSP I would go to Charlotte. The Atlanta airport is on the wrong side of town for this trip. I would imagine there is a direct to CLT from BTR.

Since we are flying into Greenville, we are going to stay there. Only about an hour drive to campus from there.

Dabo will have his team up for the challenge in their own backyard, making an LSU victory all the sweeter- I’m betting this opener will be different.
Two storied programs, a beautiful campus, and pretty good fans. Small bar scene but safe and fun. I’ll be there.
Consider renting a house on Lake Hartwell near campus if you plan to make it over in a group.

Here is an option OP didn't point out from Southwest:
Friday 8/29 - MSY to GSP @ 8:05am, arrive at 1:15pm (1 stop in HOU) - $233
Sunday 8/31 - GSP to MSY @ 11:15am, arrive at 2:05pm (1 stop in BNA) - $213

$445.95 after fees / person

I would be okay with one stop to save $400

If I go, I'll probably fly into Atlanta and drive to my family's home in South Carolina.
