Obviously its as simple as it can get but unique to our state and in the fact that there are no other teams that use it in all of sports that I can think of.

Question is what year(s) did it kinda take off because I really don't remember players using it say over 10 years ago. Anyone know? Random arse question but didn't know if it was a specific player or group of recruits who started it possibly.

"L" stood for loser when I was growing up. And I left LSU in '11, so it was after that.

A friend of the family just started at Southeastern and they are always throwing up the L for Lion up and it aggravates the shite out of me.

That's what it stood for during the Curley Hallman years.

I know Sam Montgomery did in ‘11 during the Oregon game. That may have started it

Orgeron started it in 2016 being so common.

We did it as far back as the 2002 Cotton Bowl, but that was just as a response to UT’s gesture.

I love it but if you're gonna do it with only 1 hand it needs to be the right hand! it looks dumb as shite when someone throws up a backwards arse L with their left hand! Both hands is cool but the right has to be included...now turn that music down and get off my lawn!

I seem to remember the FAM recruiting class doing it.
The class with Landry, Beckham, Freak Johnson and all those LA boys.

This makes sense. I was on a cruise (Trashy I Know) with Emery last January and anytime fans would give him a shout out on the boat he would throw up the L. That is the first time I had really noticed it.

Someone may correct me, but I first noticed, Tbob & the oline doing it after TD celebrations 09-10'. Someone call into his show and ask him.

Then more players on the team started doing it in 2010. Mostly after victories when they sing the alma mater to the band/student section. The L's geaux up for the last part, "Forever L-S-U"

As pointed out, 2011- they showcased it a lot. This is when Frank Wilson, recruiting coor. started to use it as tool. Players caught on each signing class and now you see it featured all the time.

I generally like it, although people do use that on their forehead for "loser."

Over the years, we've never had a gesture or hand signal (like Hook 'em horns, the FSU tomahawk chop, or the Gator chomp) that's distinct, or a saying (Roll Tide, War Eagle, etc.).

I live in Atlanta, and when I pass a guy in LSU gear, all I can say is "Go Tigers" which is pretty generic and bland. I'd like another phrase, but we don't have one.

The "L" hand signal is at least something.
