A lot of people were always curious about how Tyrann Mathieu got the nickname "Honey Badger." His former DB coach at LSU, Ron Cooper(LIU HC), shares the actual story. The video is less than two minutes. Honey Badger Origin Story

He can say what he wants, but that game against West Virginia was September 24 2011. Here is the actual post from August 8 of 2011 when LSU fans started calling him Honey Badger.

Mike Linebacker's Honey Badger post was over a month before the WV game, assuming it's true the PA announcer used the nickname.

ETA: not to mention, there's no reason people in West Virginia would "know about honey badgers" - they're only in Africa/Asia.

Yep, that nickname definitely came from TD. I recall the thread when the poster first called him that and remember thinking a few months later when I heard it on TV "Holy shite! The media is now using something from TD")

You are on the wrong board to be telling people how the honey badger came about. We know it started here and we know who started it. Bottom line cuz stone cold said so.

Wrong. It started here. Those here at the time remember and we were all excited when it went mainstream.

My favorite tiger of all time! I remember he wasn’t a fan of the nickname at first.. But I think he later came to appreciate it as a great compliment

I can imagine Mike tells people that he came up with the name the honey badger and a lot of people say, “Yeah, ok, sure ya did”

One of those sounds like a tall tale and is true kinda things

Anyone who was on TD in 2011 knows that TD is where the nickname came from. End of story.
