I wonder why most teams don’t put names on back of jerseys

So refreshing to see the baseball team, as usual, with last names on jerseys.
Seems very challenging to follow or study other players and teams who don’t do it. Example: watching South Carolina game right now. Either team has names.
Why major programs- or any programs leave names off is a mystery to me.
Just an observation. Thoughts?

It’s cheaper and they can be reused.

Some programs take the NYY approach. Name on the front is all that matter.

Team unity, brah. Rise above the individual.

Agree. Cheaper. As far as re using tho, I thought the name was maybe a sewn on “patch” that can be changed.
It’d bother me if I was a youngster playing to NOT have my name on my back. Again, major programs have no excuse- money wise. That’s just lazy

I don’t like that they leave off either. I get the unity feel but hard to follow, etc. seems lazy to me. Everybody (athlete) would rather have it in my opinion

Making money in college sports is a fairly new phenomenon. Hardly any baseball programs make money. Yet many are still expected to invest in facilities, coaches, etc. A jersey, for nearly all programs, isn’t a priority. You have apparel sponsorships but that’s it. Adding names is extra. And it’s not a patch.

See Jimmy, the VMI left fielder with rips in the back of both pants leg.

I agree. I also wish our WBB team would do like other teams and put their players names below the numbers. I also wish Alabama, if they have to play football, would join us in the 21st Century with a logo on their helmets in lieu of their jersey numbers, because every time we play them, for a second I think Boo #X, then its wait now it’s boo #Y? - just kidding. But I agree. Baseball teams ought to have their names on their shirts if you want us to know who the frick they are.

" I play for the name in the front of jersey not the back"

The pinstripes don’t have nameplates. It’s likely because it’s difficult to match a striped nameplate to jersey without their being something off center.
The big issue now with the MLB is that the quality in on field products has dropped under Fanatics ownership. I’m sure the same is trickling down to programs like LSU.

It is annoying; even more so with college football teams that don't have the names on the jerseys. It can't be a cost-saving measure with a program like Penn State.
The whole unity/team thing is also a little silly. The names on the jersey haven't exactly hurt Georgia, Alabama, LSU, etc.

As a fan, I love that approach. I hate wearing another’s man’s name on my back.

What does any of this have to do with LSU?
LSU wears Nike. Since when does fanatics supply LSU with gear?

If you fill out your score card correctly you don’t need names. Just numbers

Because the name of the front of the jersey matters more.

Cheaper.
