I think Rizy will start getting more and more inning on the weekends.

He’s been solid. we need to realize going out 2 innings and giving up 1 run isn’t an awful Relief pitcher. you aren’t going to get a bullpen with a 0.0 ERA

Hell yeah, until they showed they couldn't. Seriously, who thought NW State could put a beat down on LSU that bad. Team needs to get their heads out their asses and come out like stone cold killers instead of f'n off on the field. Don't care to see that lineup on the diamond again either.

Just a reminder that LSU plays in by far the toughest conference to win in. That’s why most teams pitching stats look like LSUs. Having an average about 5 SEC teams in the top 10 at all times should tell you how hard it is. There are some really good hitters in this conference every year and you just aren’t going to shut them all down.

You mean like actually start recruiting and not going by player rankings and travel ball contacts.

We made Auburn pitching look awesome.

Too much movement in the portal, too many guys aren't developing.

Everyone blames their pitching coach.

I think Jay needs to stop filling the staff with a bunch of high ceiling guys that have to learn to pitch and start recruiting more Cowan like guys. Guys that may not throw 95 but can hit spots and have an out pitch. Sure you take some high ceiling guys but you need reliable college guys too.

Excellent post. Jay needs to use the portal for proven experienced pitchers and not projects or pitchers with a possible high ceiling. Cowan is a great example, Eyanson is another. Unfortunately Sherrin may have been a third. High school recruiting is for high ceiling pitchers that you have time to develop.

Didn’t we have the lowest team ERA since 2015 after this past weekend? Getting run-ruled by NW State is pretty bad but I feel this board is overreacting after a shitty game

I can’t remember a time when lsu was this bad with relief pitching.
I don't think yall remember 2023 at the end of the year and that state series and how incredibly bad every single pitcher was outside of Paul Skenes. Then they turned it on.

We have dudes, let's see what happens. Hopefully they're slumping now and peak at the right time

We have way more than 4-5 SEC quality arms. But we have two SEC ready bullpen guys, that’s it.

This, not saying it's ok to get your arse kicked by NW State but if we win 2 games this weekend then we'll climb in the rankings.

If we lose two then we'll fall.

It hurts our RPI slightly but honestly it doesn't matter in the long run and it means absolutely nothing if we win this weekend.

It was a piss poor effor

2-0 lead and then blew up after the rain delay and just packed it in.

Jared Jones at 3rd seems to have only hurt his confidence.

Ben McDonald said the average or typical college pitcher misses his spot by 11 inches.

He said MLB pitcher. He went on to say he would expect it to be considerably worse for college pitchers.

Do you even 2023? That bullpen was an absolute disaster, worse than this one, until mid-May

Watched SLU vs Southern Miss last night. Lion’s pitcher was all around the zone. Only threw 90mph but if he threw a ball it was on purpose trying to get batter to chase.

Meanwhile sometimes it’s feels like LSU only has 6 guys that can throw strikes.

We have what we need to win in Omaha. You don't need a stable of arms. You need 4 to 5. We have 4 good ones. A 5th is a bonus.

Jay got 8 portal arms:

Luke Hayden (draft)
Cowan
Eyanson
Mayers
Dorsey
Benge
Sheerin
Fontenot

5 were proven (Eyanson, Dorsey, Sheerin, Cowan, Hayden)
1 had injury issues but put up decent numbers at his last stop (Fontenot)
1 was high upside but mixed results (Mayers)
1 was a project (Benge)

We swept Oklahoma because of pitching. We didn't hit particularly well that series.

We got swept by Auburn and gave up only 3 and 4 runs in two of those games.

We held Bama down one game with pitching. We gave up 7 on Sunday, but need to be able to put up big runs on Sunday.

Bottom line, our pen has it's struggles, but without the offense disappearing recently we have 2-3 less loses in the SEC.
