All it takes is a booster interested in baseball. The schools spend zero.

The Tennessee fans might think they have a good shot with him, but they don't need him. They have Blake Burke.
I think Tennessee fans are at the point where they think any player who enters the portal will go there.

Yeah. They're riding a high right now for sure.
They are after Maui Ahuna pretty hard though, so their optimism there is warranted.

Yeah, the players who are starting and producing at schools in major conferences who transfer always rubs be the wrong way a lot more than a guy transferring because h's not playing. Freshman starters doing it is ridiculous outside unique circumstances.

If he ends up at LSU, there was no tampering.

Schools don’t drop money on NIL. Businesses do. Thus, schools with fans that would support a business that gives NIL deals to their players should do well. LSU ought to be able to play that game as well as anyone - if NIL was actually what it is supposed to be. Since it really is boosters buying players for a school, we will drop below some others, but will be competitive.

Props to NCST for finding and developing this guy. Sorry, the NCAA is so spineless they just let players leave anytime and allow other schools to bribe him to transfer there.
If that is the way it is, we need to battle for all free agents.

He was a highly rated guy out of HS so everybody was after him but yeah I don’t think anybody was expecting what he did this year

I wouldn't turn him away but we have far greater needs than a power hitting DH.
While true (and “why not both?” and the fact he’s almost 100% has his landing spot), I think we’ve taken the effect of having LH Jacob Berry in our lineup this year for granted. Or maybe “kinda forgotten” is a closer term since it’s been so long so he’s been in there. Having a RH hitting Jacob Berry drastically changed our lineup a couple weeks ago, but after he showed he’s always 1 pitch away from yanking one 450 ft over the right field bleachers early in the season, it changed our whole lineup. That threat affected how pitchers and coaches not only pitched to him, but everyone around him.
We’re still gonna be good offensively next year—maybe even better top to bottom—but we’re gonna miss that threat in the middle of the lineup next year. And Crews is definitely gonna miss that protection. If Jay can find a middle of the order guy that’s probably gonna hit 20+ bombs barring injury, I say do it, and we’ll find a place to squeeze him in. You figure Pearson, Jobert (is he draft eligibile?), and a healthy Morgan will all progress nicely next year, but I’m a bit concerned about anybody pitching to Crews next year—ever. Cause I expect him to progress into the best hitter in LSU history next year. If he’s not already. And I hope we actually get to see him swing.

That is not shocking from their fanbase. I am beyond tired of their fanbase.

Would love to get him. Never hurts to get a player with 27 HRs.

Tommy White isn't Jacob Berry. And this team, devoid of starting pitching and defense, is not an odds on favorite to win a natty with Jacob Berry. Swapping Berry for White is a massive downgrade if you don't address the other needs. Again, I wouldn't turn him away, but we're likely sitting right in this same spot next year if we don't figure out the defense and starting pitching...White would just be a little bandaid.
ETA: And I'm not sneezing at Tommy White. He just really only addresses a single area, and an area that we really don't need to address. In fact, we're going to have 2-3 other DH only type of guys next year - sure, White may be better, but then you're again looking in the other direction of defense again.

Luke Keaschall is in the portal according to D1Baseball. Been waiting for it to happen.

Again, no shite. I have never come close to suggesting otherwise. I’m thinking about next year when I think we will have much better starting pitching and, hopefully, defense.

Did you even read my post?

My 2nd point was why are framing it as an either or binary choice? We can only upgrade starting pitching and defense OR add a middle of the order power bat? We have to choose one or the other?

Any concerns over his defense? Looks like his freshman year was solid with only 8 errors and a .957 fielding; but then had 15 errors and .936 fielding this year.
Looks to be a good hitter. Will he be able to translate to doing it against SEC pitching?

He split between 2nd and 3rd as a freshman but went back to SS full time as a sophomore. It took him a little bit to get his feet back under him at short but he was making highlight reel plays there. He will be fine defensively anywhere across the infield.

Works for me. I knew you would know and I appreciate the feedback.

Ideally, you address both within the same criteria. Like, say, a good defensive infielder and/or catcher that can help protect Crews. No, I don't think a DH only kind of guy should be a top priority bc you then limit your lineup options - you end up having more DH guys on the bench or having to force them into a defensive role or having to shuffle the defense around or all of the above.
As you said, I don't think White is coming here. As I said, I don't think you pass him up if he's a real option - you figure it out.
