If the ncaa makes a player ineligible but the local judges over rule so the player can play that year?

Could the NCAA go back and forfeit all that teams wins that season, which would include any trophies, titles, etc. ???

Yes! And then the team could get a local judge to rule that they did in fact win said trophy, and they could make their own! So fun.

They could. But for football, the playoff is separate from the NCAA. So the playoff committee could theoretically put in a 0-12 team that won all of their games but had to forfeit them.

IDK but they could just pass a rule that any college using a player ruled ineligible under an injuction isn't eligble for the playoffs in their sport.

In all the major sports, playoff spots are determined by a committee. Just tell the committee that they can't select teams that are circumventing the rules, even through legal avenues.

In the Sorbsy case, part of the judge’s ruling stated that the NCAA cannot force Tech to forfeit games in which Sorsby plays

Texas Tech plays in Oregon, Colorado, and Ohio this season. Couldn't the NCAA go to judges in those states asking for a temporary injunction so he can't play in those states?

That's a great follow up question.

You would think that as big as the NCAA is, they would have a building full of Attorneys looking into every possible way around these different cases.

i would have assumed that litigation against the NCAA would have needed to go through a federal court and not state/local court as it was "interstate commerce"

Contractual agreement with performance in the state might be enough to get to a state judge. Not to mention if they are sharing any form of revenue generated within the state.

Or they could leave out a 12-0 Texas tech team because they used a player they shouldn’t have.

Or the contrary, deny a 12-0 team entry into the playoff based on the breaking of a rule.
The holy grail is the Natty, not a 12-0 record...

I hope he plays and TT loses every fricking game. Waste of time, 5 million NIL gone, and irreparable damage done to their name...which will kill recruiting.

If they love a kid, they would let him play the sport that drove him to be an addict. That's abuse, that isnt love

Sure. But the OP’s question was asking specifically about if the NCAA can force them to forfeit games.

Nice in theory, but the ncaaa doesnt grant a championship in football. Plus i'd assume that any committee or body that penalizes the team for playing the player can expect a lawsuit coming their way. So until cfb adopts a professional football structure, the court system is governing college football and any organziation that wantz to fight against that better have a stomach for lawsuits

The court rulings not only make the players eligible, the rulings often protect the team from issues involving forfeiture in games the involved player plays in

Finally, the texas tech court case just showed you the NCAA can make any rule they want and it does not matter if a court says otherwise
