Nuss is the best college QB in America next year but the defense is what matters.

Watching these playoffs and it’s clear that the key is a solid defense. None of the QBs are especially impressive.

All of the semifinal teams were able to run the ball too. We can’t just rely on Nuss throwing 40+ times

He's not until he tucks it a couple of times a game instead of handing it off. If he never begins to do that our offense & him are sitting ducks.

Often very overlooked part of our 2019 team is the defense because the offense was so damn good

How many guys from that contributed from that team are contributing in the NFL today? Starter or close to it?

Stingley
Fulton
Chaisson
Jacob Phillips
Delpit
Patrick queen

Need playmakers on both side of the ball

Defense wins, and we’ve been focused on out scoring opponents. These finals kind of prove that Defense is what wins Championships. We’ve basically become a K state or Texas Tech type squad, prioritizing offense.

Defense wins championships definitely applies this year and I agree 100%

The defense in 2019 found its footing when it mattered against Georgia, OU, and Clemson.

But the 2019 defense was incredibly mediocre at best most of the regular season. Shredded @ Texas (38 points; 530 years), pretty bad vs. Florida (28 points; 457 yards), shredded @ Bama (41 points; 541 yards), shredded @ Ole Miss (37 points; 614 yards).

That's four games that LSU could have easily lost had it not had the best offense in program history. The defense sucked in those games, was average in the other games, but thankfully rose to the occasion in the final three games.

I’d say the defense finally came alive in the Arkansas game that year and especially the Texas A&M 50-7 thrashing. Defense played lights out against A&M.

That was this year. It’s not the case every year. LSU and Bama won more with offense than defense in 2019 and 2020. Georgia relied on defense in 2021, but more on the offense in 2022 (winning the semifinal 42-41). Michigan and this year’s winner will be more dependent on defense. At the end of the day, what’s important is scoring margin. It doesn’t have to come from one side or the other.

Name the better QB.

Nuss throws for 4,000 yards and our fanbases response - "yeah but he sucks and needs to provide us with a running game too"

How about the offensive line actually gets push against 6/7 man boxes and we run the freak show Caden Durham instead of forcing the ball to a slower back with more seniority?

The defense is being patched together and Kelly was still "working on the roster" of week 4 this year so Nuss is going to have to win us games early.

Week 1 is enormous for him, Kelly and the program. And we need him to win that game for us on his arm while defense gets figured out.

This. It’s why we have the 3 best rookies in the league right now and didn’t accomplish shite last year. If your defense is garbage, the offense has zero room for error. And unfortunately as good as Nuss is, he’s prone to some errors. LSU has to focus on defense more than anything if they want to succeed.

In watching the playoffs, I would agree with you. Watching all these other QBs play, he has such a live arm compared to them. I thought Howard was pretty good, but the Penn ST, ND, and Texas QBs, are just not talented passer. Ewers may be the worst of the three, and he is gone. The word is he is hitting the portal and will get guaranteed a couple million. I'd take it if I were him...I can't see him making it in the NFL.

tell me which QB isn't? Especially first year starters. They all threw picks in the last couple games. Ewers was really bad...missed a LOT of open recs downfield, but was good completing the 5 yard passes to the RB.

I agree LSU has not been close to the defenses of Penn State, ND, Texas, or Ohio State. If you can't stop the run, you aren't going to win a NC imo.

That is the key. Running the ball. And then being able to stop the run. We can stop the run hopefully these dt’s and edge guys can wreak havoc on passing down.

Prior to the last 2-3 years I remember watching lsu games and being confident the D would make a stop if it was 3rd and 6+. Lately it’s like 3rd and 25 and I’m praying.

I don't trust Nuss against elite defenses. He gets spooked easily and I don't know if the mental aspect is something that can be changed.

All 4 of the final teams were physical as hell. BK teams not neven close to that class on either side of the ball
