This is MY take only so Tiger Rant Trolls can sit this one out.
I watched the documentary last night and here some observations
2023 team had way more talent plus all the back end guys OVER ACHIEVED. (Dugas, Hurd, Pearson Cooper, Ack Guidry etc)
2024 team the stars were ok but all expected guys like Kling Pearson Hurd Guidry all UNDER ACHIEVED except newcomers Monster and Larson ( thank God for them)
I think Coach J and media thought Kling Pearson and Hurd would be WAY better this year.
Also Coach J looks like he’s aged 10 years since last June. My guess when he looks back on his career this years team will be one of his disappointments
Again just my take

Neal and Kling not taking the next step doomed this lineup. That should be your everyday catcher and CF and they’re been unplayable at times.

Interesting take. I would agree with your assessment. I guess the only way this year is a reasonable success is if we win 2/3 next weekend and somehow pickup a few wins in Hoover and back into a Regional. Either way way it’s been a rough season.

Hurd has really hurt this staff. He should be your 3rd starter. Think little has come around but to make a run in Hoover you need someone to step up. Who’s it going to be?

Everyone wants to write them off at this point, I think that is a mistake. But there is no way of knowing that until next year.

we had 2 sophmore in the lineup down the stretch last year

we have 3 soph and 2 freshmen in the lineup a lot this year. thats a very different lineup.

I think Jay fully expected
pitching to carry this team and it just wasn’t what we hoped it would be.

I don’t think I’d particularly call Dugas a back end guy. He might not have been elite like Crews or Morgan but Dugas seemed to always get that big clutch hit or HR when they needed it most his whole career.

I think it is dumb to write young guys off.

If either were playing JUCO or Southland ball they probably would be killing it, and that’s where Joebert was his second year out of HS and he ended up being a very good player for us.

Neal is also reclassified.

But I dont think you can bank on them either.

JJ needs to go get anyone he can that’s a proven bat and a proven pitcher and let Kling and Neal compete for a spot in the lineup.

yep we’ve only won 1 Sunday game in conference. Had he made the jump as expected this year we’d at minimum be .500 in the SEC right now and be looking at a ~40 win season and possibly hosting a regional.

Think that’s been the biggest difference in expectation vs reality for this team this year.

The bats were a big dissapointment. No one expected last year's offense. But this dip can't happen.

Combine that with hurd not making the trip to some away games, and here we are. (Exaggeration but you get the point)
