The Real Question is why doesn't Mike have a girlfriend. ?

We should chip in and get him a young female Bengal tiger that way Mike and his woman can make more Mike Juniors.

Pretty sure he's neutered isn't he?

Mike VI hated the games. He didn't like the crowd noise, he didn't like the fireworks, and he didn't like being forced into a mobile cage to be towed around and parked in cramped quarters next to the visiting team's locker.

It was a fun tradition while it lasted. Mike IV would regularly roar at the visiting team simply because he hated people in general. Mike V dealt with it, but he was a "tale it or leave it" type of mascot. But Mike VI hated it so much that Dr Baker and the Athletic Dept decided it was better to just let him stay in his habitat and allow the fans to enjoy him from there.

Mike VII may or may not like the prospect of taunting a visiting team on the field, but this tradition ended many years ago and there's really no good reason (from the tiger's perspective) to bring it back.

As far as PETA goes - fekk anything they have to say about animals. They're hypocrites in that regard, and all they really want anyway is money.

eta: As to the question immediately preceding this - no, Mike isn't neutered. As to the girlfriend idea - there's no need to breed a tiger in captivity when there are so many in large cat rescue facilities around the country. I like Dr. Baker's idea of searching for the perfect mascot when the time comes for Mike VIII.

I seent that thing smoking cigarettes

Me too, Candy at Fun Fair Park.

Still smoking cigarettes and kept in a cage (Blue Bayou) when she died at the ripe ole age of 50 in 2017.

Heard she was mean as hell.

Yes, Baylor has a live Bear habitat on campus.

Back in the 70s the Bear would drink Dr. Pepper at midfield. Damn. I miss the good old days.

Only solution to get him back would be an enclosed bridge from his enclosure to the stadium where he could come and go as he pleases.

Yep, looks that way, not sure if this has changed.

They don't bring him on the field and he's not even housed on their campus.

Why do people keep bringing up this idea of Mike at the games? It's been decided, once and for all, that he will NEVER again be at the games.

You can go see him whenever you choose, so do it. My first game was in 1958, when I was four years old. Pulling a tiger around in a cage didn't mean much to me then, and it still doesn't. Most times through the years, I hardly noticed he was there.

Move on from this. All the adults have.

Well not now, he’s dead. That said, looks like he’s next to/on the field with the band.

It has not been decided once and for all. We don’t care what it means to you. It obviously means something to quite a few people. Even if it does mean nothing to you then it wouldn’t matter that he would be back in the stadium would it.

You PETA people sure do have a problem with logic. None of you can make a single valid argument other than some recently created organization that has no power over anybody buying tigers.

Like I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter if Mike’s habitat is called a sanctuary or not. That is completely arbitrary. Without that designation, Mike still lives in a better environment, which would be the same environment he lives now, than 99% of living or dead tigers that have ever existed on this planet.

You got a problem with the tiger king, go visit him in jail.

Tell the truth, you stomped your foot when you typed that, didn't you?

So, who to believe -- an anonymous message board post or LSU? Here is what LSU had to say in 2017 before Mike VII was donated from a sanctuary in Florida:
quote:

A major change announced for Mike VII is that he will no longer be asked to visit sporting events in his cage. The GFAS accreditation standards are part of the reason Mike will no longer visit Tiger Stadium on gamedays. The GFAS requires that “felids are not taken from the sanctuary or enclosures/ habitats for exhibition, education or research purposes.” It also requires the enclosure to be at least 1,200 square feet.

The University stated its vision for Mike VII is for him to be on campus by August. Just like the last four Mikes, the plan is for the tiger to be donated from a rescue facility, rather than taken from the wild or bred in captivity.
LINK

The last time LSU brought a tiger into Tiger Stadium was Sept. 5, 2015. Since then, the school has stated it will not bring Mike the Tiger into Tiger Stadium again. Its already been seven years so I'm gonna have to say I think LSU means business on this one.

But you keep holding out hope.

You do understand that the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries has zero authority or control over LSU getting its tigers. I’ll repeat that again. They have 0 authority or control over LSU getting its tigers.

Who was the LSU AD in 2017?
Who was the LSU President in 2017?
Who was the LSU Head Coach in 2017?
Who was Mike’s vet in 2017?

All new people in these positions. Remind me again, who has the ability to have Mike in the stadium? But you hold out hope that Mike will never enter the stadium again.

They have a new Tiger in Memphis. It’s housed at a facility off campus and is not brought to games.

Sure it COULD happen because as you said, it’s ultimately up to LSU. People are being realistic though. It’s not going to happen again.

This is so stupid. He’s NOT. Meanwhile you’re holding out hope that he will and wasting your time.

You lose. Stop.
